So here I am sitting at Perth Domestic eyeing off a muffin and coffee waiting to check in, the big question, will the asic card get me a worthwhile discount on the largly inflated price of the muffin and coffee? Anybody? :E

err why don't you just ask the staff at the place that you are eyeing off ??

Why should it get you a discount, does it take the place of a perth airport ID?

Normally, it will. But sometimes they need you to be in unifrom to qualify for a staff discount. I'm a shameless Asic card user when it comes to discounts. That's all they're useful for, apart from drawing straight lines on trim sheets

A "wings" badge of any denomonation will hold you in better stead when attached to a bag where people can see it.

Go for it. I once paid over $20 for a Chocolate milk, 2 chicken wings and a pre-packed sandwich at Perth domestic. They are in their own little world in there.

Was that 20 Aussie dollars or 20 WA dollars?

Depends...
Dome or Hudsons won't give you any discount, but the blue place downstairs at the QF end will, but only on some things. Upstairs in QF, the aerodome bar will give you discounts to bring prices down from eye-popping to merely hypoxic levels.
Don't bother with food in the Virgin terminal - once had an egg roll, and it was exactly that. No butter, no mayo, no salad, just an egg smeared inside a roll and a $7 price tag...

gets you in cheap in most darwin night clubs ... even if you're from the pointy end rather than down the back. :ok:

Was running a touch late through the terminal at BN after work yesterday... was still wearing the ASIC.

Dunno if the ASIC did the trick, but

1/. straight to the front of the Jetstar check-in queue;

2/. checked in 5 mins late (on a Jetstar flight... NEVER happens)

3/. Exit row seat (never happens if I ask)

4/. invited to the front of the security screening queue

Still had to pay $3 for an instant coffee on Jeffstar :ouch: (but had taken it off before boarding)

What is it with Perth Airport - Domestos and International - the worst coffee in the world? I can't figure out why it is so consistently bad - is it the "Hi-Lo" milk they use (no longer available in most other states I think - if its the same stuff I grew up with as a kid) or the brown water?

Any ideas?

(anyone remember HiLo milk in NSW - I could never drink it - revolting - not sure why - think it had a different heat treatment - anyone know what was different about it/why? and is it the same in Perth

My ASIC on a Qantas flight got me a staff meal because they thought I was something special (like my Mum does) and mind you the hostie was old enough to be my mother :oh:

Pet hate...

Bonebrains that travel about in civvies displaying their ASIC! Show it at check-in, then for f*&ksake, put it away!!!!!!!!!!!
Half of you blokes prance around with your ASIC like it's some backstage pass to a Stones concert and you're just waiting for women to throw themselves at you!
Do us all a favour. Keep it in your pants..... Your ASIC too!

My ASIC's gotten me free upgrade to premium economy seating on DJ before, in addition to the usual (barely) discounted crap in domestic terminals.

HiLo milk is just calcium enriched low fat milk (HI calcium, LO fat). Although the brand HiLo is only available in WA, similar products are available in the other states.

Mr. Buzzy.....

Bonebrains that travel about in civvies displaying their ASIC!

Seems like you've overlooked the fact that not everyone who needs an ASIC needs to wear a uniform. :ugh:

Thank you Suiya, well put.

Buzzter I had been wearing it all day at work and had forgotten it was there until the security goon mentioned it- - but I DO know where you're coming from.

I used to have a student (CPL holder but never flew for a $) who told me he ALWAYS wore his ASIC when flying (as pax).

"Why?" I asked.

"Well..... why shouldn't I? I'm entitled to..." :ugh:

Seems like you've overlooked the fact that not everyone who needs an ASIC needs to wear a uniform.

You banana!
There is no need to wear an ASIC while paxing around. period.

It's to be worn, while you are on duty! Not while taking your kids on holidays!

Ever noticed how even the cabin crew remove them? Last time I looked, they wear a uniform. There is even less reason for you, without your uniform to be prancing about with your ASIC.

Show it at check-in, then put it away! The public couldn't give a toss what you do.

Im with Mr Buzzy on this one...

Wearing an ASIC at the airport while paxing is on the same level as C172 instructors wearing 4 stripes on their eppaullette(sp?).

Mr.Buzzy......

Maybe you should think a bit before posting ready-fire-aim responses like your last one.

Simple fact is Mr Buzzy, NOT EVERYONE who needs an ASIC needs to wear a uniform. And that includes professional pilots.

I'm one, and have been for over 38 years. And I haven't needed to wear a uniform for over 22 years. I still need an ASIC though.

So repeating Mr Buzzy, no requirement for a uniform doesn't mean no requirement for an ASIC.

Politically_Blonde..............I agree with you if the person's wearing the ASIC just for show.

But, there's some of us who DO need ASICs, ARE professional pilots, DON'T wear uniforms, but DO need to wear ASICs while going about our jobs on airports.

Discussion closed!

Hey Bozo,
this has nothing to with whether you need to wear a uniform or not.

Seeing as though you have closed the discussion though, I'll leave you to wank on about your 38 years of blah blah with your ASIC to an ever admiring Joe Public!

Unless you are in a security restricted area...... IT IS FOR SHOW....sheeesh!
