Rougham Airfield needs support every year, so for those people who like classic cars, planes and steam engines, Then The June event of "Wings, Wheels and Steam" is a must event.

A short write up about last years event is below.

Wings, Wheels and Steam, saw two fabulous days of fine weather and some outstanding air displays . The main arena had a top class sheep dog demonstration and the Classic Cars and Military Vehicles were there in force. As ever the steam engines gave their muscle to the event. Aircraft of all makes and ages turned up to give the crowds a chance to see some of these fine machines in action.

The dates will be 27th & 28th June 2009

There was some talk of a display, so check the timing before setting off as they will stop movements while there is a display. I cannot see any mention on their website of the timings.

Its a nice rural day out with lots of interesting old machinery and interesting old owners!!

Hope some of you can make it to what is probably my favourite show of the year.

I'll see if I can dig out the PPRuNe hat and a few badges for anyone who says hello but, as yet, not sure which day I'll be there.

Regards
Rob

Not sure either. I got a call yesterday asking to confirm that I was displaying. Trouble is that they must have forgotten to ask me and I already have bookings for displays elsewhere... so I'm not sure what they have booked.... not sure they do either!!!

Have a nice time though.

Is it just 2pm to 4pm on Saturday only, or are there any other restrictions on arrivals and departures?

Notam says:

REF: H2001/09 From: 2009-Jun-27 Sat 14:00 To: 2009-Jun-28 Sun 15:45
Schedule: 1400-1545
ICAO: EGTT SFC to 4000FT AMSL

AIR DISPLAY/AEROBATICS WI 2NM 5215N 00046E (ROUGHAM AD, SUFFOLK). AUS 09-06-0319/AS2.

Looks like 1500L to 1645L on each day****

Your 'PPR' is your call to Rougham Radio on 118.9 when 10 miles/5 minutes out: I guess if there's unexpected activity they'll tell you on the radio.

Best to keep a good lookout: I didn't go last year but only live 3 miles from Rougham and the sky was thick with a/c all morning both days.

I haven't got a PPRuNe hat but I'll shove my PPRuNe badge on my 388BG baseball cap

Have decided to do Rougham Saturday and Old Buck Sunday.

****(Post edited to correct BST/UTC mis conversion: I'd advise checking with Rougham)

Looking at the website, I'm slightly confused - is there a charge to visit the event in ADDITION to the landing fee - or does the landing fee INCLUDE entry?

Presumably Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Honington are all inactive at the weekend and nothing to prevent a direct transit of these areas on arrival and departure?

If display schedule is 1400 to 1545z surely that would be 1500 to 1645 local (BST)? and not 1300 to 1445? ( never did understand the friggin clock)

Lakenheath, Mildenhall are active H24 (Honington by NOTAM) D208 has been hot of late with night PJE tho' I think not this weekend

You should call Lakenheath Radar on 128.9 for MATZ penetration and avoid LKH/MLD ATZ at all times. They will tell you if D 208 is active.

Yes, you're right on BST:ugh: (post edited)

Though the Rougham office did tell me 2-4 pm. (Maybe when they notified the NOTAM they forgot Notams were UTC?)

***Edit***
Tho' Honington is not active flying wise, it has its own (small) flying club, The Norfolk/Suffolk Air ambulances visit there by day as do the Apaches from Wattisham who have been overflying our strip (Under HON MATZ) at 500ft or below in the last few weeks as there is a lot of activity around D208-Stanford training ground, which resumes next week. So keep a good lookout and ask for a Basic service from LKH Radar

Is it just me or is the PPRuNe clock up the creek?

Lakenheath and Mildenhall (128.90) will be open over the weekend and the Americans will give you a Basic service but Honington is normally closed unless activated by NOTAM. Honington is not used for flying these days so no ATC.

Usually there is very little flying by Lakenheath and Mildenhall at weekends but they do have the radar manned. They can also advise you whether the danger area just east of Thetford is active, which it sometimes is.

Normally there are no restictions about where you go in their MATZ but they will instruct you to keep clear of the Mildenhall and Lakenheath ATZs so plan to go round or over the top of them.
