As far as I know currently mostly australians have been getting called.

Bardak, judging from your location I assume you've applied for the AE or TT entry. What are you doing to prepare for stage 1?

regards.

I've applied for Advanced Entry Programme. 2-3 month ago I recieved Russian ICAO CPL after studying 3 years in civil aviation college. The problem is that such subjects as Math, Aerodynamic, Navigation, Meteorology I was given in Russian.

For the Australians who have been called for 1a, how long after submitting your application did they contact you? Was it a call or an email?

Do they go through Australia then move on to other regions?

wantobe
7th Apr 2015, 21:33
They usually email the CAD declaration. I imagine at the moment they have an interview team in Australia. I assume they are gonna exhaust all the short listed applicants first before moving elsewhere.

Hey has anyone been for their medical recently? Is it similar to the FAA or CAA one? I am just slightly nervous for the medical but I hold both FAA & EASA Class 1's.

Its the old eyesight question again!

Nutta777
7th Apr 2015, 23:43
Does anyone who has recently done an interview in Australia know if they will be around much longer in Australia? When did you submit your applications? I sense that I may have to wait a while before any chance comes up in Australia again.

Hi, Rodrigues
As far as i know no one got an interview without multi-engine instrument rating, even the candidates short of night flying hours, like myself didnt got invited.I heard that there is tooo much AE applications and they are trying to cut down candidates so every little thing can disqualify you,for example if you dont have minimums to convert to HKG CPL-IR-ME.

Received Declaration of flying month ago, sent in back after a day,and i am just 4h short on night flying, because in EU its just 5h night flying for CPL,told them of course that i can do this 4h of night in very short notice. Also i have a flying job in general aviation,560TT

I heard that they had 5700 applications combined, cadet,AE and TT,we can just keep our fingers crossed,i hope this helps

I exceeded all the night requirements.

Haven't been called up yet. So don't count your self out just yet.

8th May 2015, 04:23
on the application there is the question "Do you have passes in all ICAO ATPL written subjects?"

Is checking "yes" to this necessary for the Advanced Entry (AE) program?

As a commercial license holder (CPL), I don't know if many people would have this prior to being ready for the ATP licensing (1500 hours).

Does anyone have any information on this matter?

ATPLs are not required as long as you meet the other requirements of education stated.

Most guys wont have their ATPLs unless from EU. I know I was the only one out of my group.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply seymoreskye, and just to be clear, checking "no" to the ATPL written box doesn't disqualify us in any way, as long as we have something like a college degree?

The above post is awesome - please can someone help him and assist with any info or tests pilotwannabehk can't be bothered getting for themselves.

If you want a study group - scout out people for yourself. You've asked for assistance before, maybe it's time to take a deep breath and pm someone also asking for help. But seriously don't go on about how you want to screen your study buddies. Or do. But if you do please post your results because someone not employed by the airline and asking for help for the interview process who somehow knows enough about the interview process would be a thumping good read.

As always, good luck but stop sitting back and expecting people to rush to you. Take that big step forward and do your own legwork.

seymoreskye
20th May 2015, 10:34
I applied back in 2012 before they closed it. Back then I had 0 hours.

Then I updated my application initially in late November 2014 and received an email in Jan.

It is all about location for AE and where the roadshows are happening. If you are waiting for a UK interview for example, you won't hear anything until they are ready to start recruitment days in the UK. Maybe 2/3 weeks before said date

andrewyan08

"It is all about location for AE and where the roadshows are happening. If you are waiting for a UK interview for example, you won't hear anything until they are ready to start recruitment days in the UK. Maybe 2/3 weeks before said date"

In regards to this, I checked the box on the application that said I preferred my interview to be in HK (rather than home country), does the road show still matter in this case?

seymoreskye
21st May 2015, 10:08
All I can say is keep current, keep updating your profile and keep it recent. Hours are not a factor as long as you qualify for their minimums. They are dealing with an incredible amount of applications at the moment and I have no doubt this number is only going to increase as road shows begin.

Someone stated it is mostly AUS being recruited due to favoritism, this is not true. Reason being is that for the last few months they have been actively recruiting in Australia on roadshows. This means that at the moment AUS candidates coming through is a high number. This will change as CX reach USA/UK/EU ect.

In regards to having HK interview locations on your profile that is good. However, I am not sure if HR look at your current residency and go by that?
example:

If it was me, I would look at your two options being HK and let's say USA(miami), Then I would notice you are currently LIVING in Miami. I would therefore keep your CV on file until recruitment hits MIA. It would be easier for both parties to organize the interview I feel.

This is merely my opinion and with everything else, I am probably wrong!! :ok::ok:

Hope this helps you out?

Keep the faith, keep flying and you will get the call if they find you suitable.

I applied for the AE. I went through the initial stage a couple of months ago. It was the interview, an abstract reasoning test and a multi choice technical test (really basic stuff).
The final stage is spread over 2 days in HK. Day 1 is the group exercise, personality test and sim assessment. Day 2 is the compass tests, panel interview, language proficiency test and finally the medical.
This website is really useful for practicing the compass tests

@AviatorPac

Thanks for the info

I've looked up on the past data in this thread. Is your flow similar to the followings?

Submit Application -> 1.5 month -> Stage 1A -> 2-3weeks -> Stage 1B -> 2 months -> Stage 2

Sounds about right, I did have 1B two days after 1A though.

justinlaw117
8th Jul 2015, 16:55
@justinlaw117

Guess you are an overseas applicant but possess HK ID?

how long is the gap between 1b and stage 2?
Nope, I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Guess they might be processing me as an overseas applicant though since I went to school in the States and I do hold an overseas passport in addition to my HKID.

I did 1B on June 24, I'm scheduled to sit Stage 2 on August 10

Hello All,

I see some of you who are not residing in HK & assuming are not HK citizens mentioned that they received the Interview letters.

I am from India, is it possible for me to get enrolled into this program, If yes then how to go about it? because I checked the website shows only HKID holders.

Hey Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I have Stage 1A for an AE cadet position, coming up in August.

My biggest worry is this compass test. Is there physics and maths involved? A If so then I need to brush up on it, been a few years:}

Again, if yes, are they (1) separate tests, (2) are formulas given if need be and (3) is it pure mental math (I.e long division, fractions, square root of tyre pressure, etc...) or can we bring in a calculator?

Armchair Astronaut

You are correct. Only HKID holders are eligible for CPP. AE and TT are the only programs available to Foreign Nationals.

I applied to Cathay for the AE program a few years back, straight out of flight school, passed all stages on the first attempt but failed at Flight Grading. I heard (unofficially) at the time that that this was the end of the road as far as CX were concerned.

On a whim i applied again a few weeks ago and surprisingly i'm now getting a sniff of another interview?!

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you made to repeat all stages again or was it straight to Flight Grading?

In the interim i've notched up airline/jet hours, unsure if this has any bearing on the interview path.

Thanks

seymoreskye
13th Aug 2015, 14:35
No, you will be doing it all again, a guy at mine was in the same boat as you. Reason is the recruitment process for AE has changed quite a lot now supposedly.
Only those that PASSED flight grading but were cut short by the law changes a few years ago got invited to stage 2 straight away.

Yeah the 1a went good, the multiple choice paper was quite easy as everything you learn is already on the JKI that they hand out to you.

The compass aptitude test was alright as well, from the 7 parts i'd probably say the last part was the hardest (physics knowledge) but that being said it was all relatively okay. If you'd like you can pop me your email and I can send you all the revision material I used all the way up to flight grading. :)

Hi all,

Big thread this, and I am have seem some info that is on the net, but wondering if anyone out there can help.

Regarding the Transition Training interview, I am informed that the process involves;

Day 1
- Group Exercise
- Technical Quiz (multiple choice)
- Simulator Assessment (Boeing 747-400)
- Personality profile (computer based)

Day 2
- Interview (HR & Technical)
- English Assessment
- Medical Assessment

Was just wondering if anyone has been through this process recently?
Was anything else done on the day? No mention of Maths Test, Compass Test, Ravens Test etc.....

Technical Quiz, any advice for this?

And regarding the Transition training in Australia, I understand it is 5-6 weeks, can anyone shed light on
- The training program
- What are the 'reduced' exams that need to be done?

Would really appreciate any reply or PM if anyone can be of assistance

Hello guys~~~
I am new to here indeed and my dream is to being a pilot.

I am so happy I can live with my dream and fight for it.

So I planed to apply CPP. But my english is so poor and I need time (like 1-2years) to prepare the interview and knowledge.

Please suggest me what I should read and send me some "study materials because I don't know where to start my "study".

Thank you and this is my email: [email protected]

Does anyone know if Cathay Pacific hire someone who have no degree?

Yes, they do. A degree is not a pre-requisite and I know of a few officers who do not have degrees.

lol, this is crazy. literally the last 3 pages filled with people asking for study material from one person. what are you going to do when no one else is around to give you their prep work?

surely you would learn a lot more researching and studying for yourself.

Indeed it is crazy...seems people don't know how to do their own research anymore...

Even crazier is that HR actively read this forum and now have the email of all those too lazy to research material themselves

Has anyone got invites for Advanced Entry Final Interviews end of November?

pilot is my dream
28th Sep 2015, 09:18
hi everyone :)
it has been my dream to be a pilot since i was 4
i am now a form 5(grade 11) student in hong kong.
because of my humble family background, getting into the cx cadet programme would be my only way to achieve my dream and i would like to start planning for it. :ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh::ugh:

however i have a lot of questions about the tests and interviews.:confused:
for example,
1) the ICAO test isnt sth like a general english test. those pass it should have certain knowledge and special vocab about aviation. is there any book for me to study aviation english? or how should i prepare for it?

2) how much aviation knowledge should i have before applying the cadet programme? BAK and the one in FAA is enough or not?

3) i also want to get myself in contact with the industry and aviation. which magazine or book should i take a look? or anything else?

4) Any other suggestions for me???

looking forward to ur help and thx:):):)

Hi guys,

May I know the total length of flight grading required please?

From departure to arrival to Hong Kong, how many days in total are expected to be spent?
Is there any briefing need to attend prior to that as well?

Thanks,

Cant see that this has been addressed specifically in this post, can any AE applicants offer insight? My understanding is that the Compass test for AE is slightly different from the cadet version and consists of the following:

Slalom
Orientation
maths test
flight control (with the rudder and VSI)
Short term memory (headings, alts etc)
a Multi tasking exercise
*physics test

Can anyone confirm if this is correct, im particularly unsure about the physics test.

many thanks

Lets meet up for some preparation!

If your English is not fluent, then do not bother applying. English is the international language of aviation and I am disgusted every time I hear an Asiana, China Airlines (and sometimes the occasional Cathay) flight over ATC trying to understand the most simplest of instructions.

Thank you.

Hi Normanton,

I recently got offered an interview in November. Was wondering what information you could give me on the sim session. Is it very involved, emergencies etc, or is it more of a see how you fly and handling sort of thing? Any info on the whole process would be great. Congratulations on getting through as well

Hi Guys,

Anybody applied from the US with a preference interview location of USA? Anybody had any luck for an interview? I sent my application last May and had updated it every month. No luck yet. I've been reading a lot are getting interviews. Any feedback will be helpful, thanks in advance

Droningek, if you can afford it fly to HK for the initial interview. This will get you an interview providing you have suitable experience. Have had a few friends do it and it makes their 2nd stage easier (a few less things to do during the day than I had)
