Bangkok Post : THAI to raise fuel surcharge by US$10 (http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/145671/thai-to-raise-fuel-surcharge-by-us-10)

Published: 10/06/2009 at 10:31 AM Thai Airways International (THAI) will raise its fuel surcharge by US$10 per flight on routes to and from Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
The increase will be effective on Friday, THAI executive vice president Pandit Chanapai said on Wednesday.

The increase is in line with the rise in global oil prices, he said.

"I do not believe raising the fuel surcharge will affect the ticket sales of Thai Airways since the increase is not a lot," Mr Pandit said.

Are other airlines also doing this? I thought the oil price had been down recently

I work for a UK based scheduled airline, and our into plane fuel price increased by 8% last month and 7% the month before.

I'm told we can expect similar rises at the end of this month ... if you live in the UK, you can see the same happening at the petrol pumps :bored:

The crude price is increasing again, so it would not be a surprise to see some airlines' fuel bills also increasing. It'll depend on individual hedging positions. I think that there are some airlines who will actually be relieved to see the spot fuel price increasing, as their hedging arrangments effectively mean that they are locked in to paying more for their fuel than the current spot price, so a rise in the spot price will decrease their hedging pain.

People only notice the increases!
Thai made very substantial decreases to their fuel surcharges on 15 Oct 08, 6 Nov 08 and 19 Dec 08.
I thought the oil price had been down recently
stickyb Yes it was but the current spot oil price is now about double that low.
