You go to the Garmin Website, pay your money and follow directions.

Basically, you will need to hook your computer up to the internet, your Garmin to your computer via a serial port or USB serial port adapter.

Go to Garmin: Aviation Databases (http://shop.garmin.com/aviation/databases/) follow the prompts. You need to have your GPS connected as it somehow modifies the database so that it recognises only the GPS that is connected.

From memory after you have downloaded the file, you put in a software key that is emailed to you and it will then update the GPS.

You can probably get the manual at the Garmin website if you have lost yours.

Yep the process described by Rudder works, has for me several times.

You need a special cable to connect the GPS to a USB port. There are two types of update. The GPS software (free) and the Jepps database that you pay for.
