Hi All
I have completed my PPL and am considering taking it further. However I am a little confused about how many PIC hours I need before starting my CPL/IR I thought you had to have 100 hours PIC but on visiting a Flight school recently they said you only need 70 hours is it to do with what you do first IR or CPL ?

Thanks

Neither its to do with the MEP rating.

You need to go to the caa website and read lasors.

In a nut shell,

150 hours total time needed to start the CPL course (remember thoery exams need to be completed as well).

200 hours total time for CPL licence issue of which 100 needs to be p1.

IR and MEP both require 70 hours p1 prior to the course.

So if you did the IR first on a ppl with 70 p1, then by the time you complete the IR you could have reached 150 total to start the CPL course, but you would still need to build the additional p1 time after the CPL course and test to get the licence issued.

You don't need 70 hours P1 to start the MEP course, you need 70 hours P1 for the MEP rating to be issued to you.

You can actually do the MEP course with less than 70 hours should you so wish (you just can't apply for the rating until you have 70 P1).
