Who was that up in a Spitfire painted in invasion stripes over Chorleywood/Rickmansworth around 15:00 today ?

Sorry to see that who ever is was did really push the envelop but still a thrilling sight in the blue sky !

Making a very peculiar noise though - surely that wasn't a Merlin ???

Was it a scale replica?

Last week I heard a light aircraft going over head - looked like a Spitfire with black and white stripes. Got to have been a replica - sounded like a Cessna.

A twister, perhaps pete wells? Dunno about the invasion stripes, colour scheme may have changed..

Maybe one of those homebuilt Spitfire Mk26 scale replicas?

Or if it was an urgent ripping snarl, perhaps a Griffon-powered Spitfire XIV or XIX.

Not sure who was in it but it performed 2 flypasts :)
at RAF Northolt to to comemorate the restoration of the officers mess. I managed to get a few shots of it in the blazing heat.
IT was PR9 PS853

Which is PM631 PRXIX of the BBMF.
Check out the BBMF website as it's going to be a busy few days marking D Day and also Petwood Hotel which was 617 Sqdn Officers Mess. Bound to be l;ots of opportunity if the weather turns nice again!
Any chance they might drop Gordon out of the bomb bay onto Sarkozy? Now that really would be two birds with one stone, and cheer the Nation up no end.

I recognize the pilot - one of my finest mates, bet he wished he'd tried no harder at school:ok::}

Such a beautiful aeroplane, particularly in blue :D. What I wouldn't do to fly one....

Looks like the Griffon bulges on the nose.
