Does anyone know the nearest airstrip to Warsash? I've seen that Hamble did have an airfield, but cannot find any information suggesting that aviation still takes place there.

Hamble now covered in houses.

The nearest are Southampton (not GA friendly), Lower Upham (grass, private, but open to visitors) and Lee-on-Solent, only recently re-opened to visitors, but with good tarmac.

Hamble used to be the ab initio training school for BA!

Sandown and Bembridge probably aren't that far away :ok:

Not much point in landing at either of those if you then have to spend 90 minutes on the surface to get to Warsash.

It's about 7 miles to Lee and 12 to Lower Upham.

I was being slighty sarcastic - there's a wide stretch of water between which would naturally mean these aren't realistic, but as the crow flies....

Thanks for the help, Lee in Solent looks excellent.

Goodwood is not THAT far away, and is a lovely airfield with great food! Easy drive from Warsash.

I telephoned Upham recently and was told that visitors were NOT welcome!

I have to fly down that way next weekend. If Southampton is not GA friendly, how is Bournemouth?

XXPlod - not what it says on Lower Upham Airfield (http://www.lowerupham.com/) :

Visitors welcome.
Airfield open 8 am to Sunset.
Close to Southampton and the Solent.
Hangarage & outside storage available.

Pity they can't update/remove the website.
