I'm just starting my commercial flight training and theory. Commercial is my ultimate goal but I'm interested in what people think about getting a private licence as well. I'd like to take friends out on the weekend one day but everyone seems to think just getting commercial is good enough. Any thoughts?

Unless the Australian CASA rules are very different to everywhere else, a commercial licence also grants you private licence privileges.

I had a PPL, now have a CPL but I can still fly friends and family privately.

Unless you are going on an ab-pinitio integrated course starting from zero hours, you usually need to have a private PPL first before you can start commercial training.
