I'd like to bore ppruner's with my surfing photo's and videos this year.

I'd like to take my Nikon 7600 coolpix in the water with me, It's unlikely to be submergered more than a few feet, most of the action takes place above the wave.

There seems to be two types of case, solid ones, which cost abot a hundred and fifty quid, or these, Waterproof Underwater Housing Case Digital Camera WP100 on eBay, also Underwater Camera Cases, Bags Cases, Digital Camera Accessories, Photography (end time 12-May-09 21:45:22 BST) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Waterproof-Underwater-Housing-Case-Digital-Camera-WP100_W0QQitemZ380117129276QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CamerasPhot o_CameraAccessories_BagsCases_JN?hash=item380117129276&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 %7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) which appear a little robust, but cheaper.

Anyone any experience of these?

I have a couple of cases of those round the lockup. Could let you have one half price. Only a bit of water damage on them.:}

Save yer pennies, Ging.

Just wrap the camera in a plackie bag. It'll be fine. Trust me. :}

If you want to take your camera in the water, but only inadvertenty under the water more than a few inches or so, the waterproof bag with hard plastic over the lens will do fine. If you're doing anything with the camera below a meter or so, consider a hard case: it's the water pressure that will kill a camera in a baggie: 5 feet down, you're applying nearly 2psi to that nice LCD on the back. I use the baggie type to keep the camera clean on the beach.

Voice of experience here: if your chosen solution doesn't float, consider tying yourself to the camera and/or attaching a very bright ball to it: it's invisible once you let go of it, and it sinks faster than you can.

Thanks for the advice, Bushfiva, it sounds like the ceaper one will suffice. (I try and stay on the top of the wave!)

As long as you float yourself! :-)

Ging,

I would strongly suggest getting a waterproof camera. Thems is rather cool. Works really well and if you're using it in salt water a quick rinse is all you need. The price of these has come down dramatically in the last year, the the quality of the pics is just as good as your 7600.

Good luck.
