On BBC Midlands, a feature showed a German AF C-160 Transall at RAF Coningsby which had come to take a replacement Merlin engine to Amsterdam.
The BBMF Lanc was stranded in Amsterdam and the RAF did not have a suitable airframe to fly out the Merlin, the RAF must have dialled 118118 and got the Luftwaffe:)

Squadron Leader Al Pinner gave an interview yesterday that was aired on BBC Look North. He stated that the BBMF Dakota was going to be used, but decided against it. I can't remember now what the reason was? Could have been cross winds?

I don't see what the problem is, other than trying to score some inter-service banter?

It make absolutely perfect sense to utilise other NATO and EU spare airlift capacity.

The agreement.

We Dutch were a bit baffled... to see, of ALL Air Forces, the Deutsche Luftwaffe delivering that spare Merlin engine at Amsterdam Airport as

Pictures of the Merlin being unloaded from the Transall, right on the doorstep of where the Avro is currently hangared:

Spoke to a BBMF engineer at the DDA-hangar yesterday; he confirmed that a new engine was being trucked over (Hull-Rotterdam ferry) as they could not find RAF air transport. The engine itself was no problem: they currently have 13 RR Merlins in stock...
which was the original plan...
Other troublespot: the complete oil-system has/had to be drained, cleaned and inspected because of (possible) contamination with small metal particles.
plus
Just came from the DDA Hangar at Amsterdam Airport: they don't expect to get her airborne again before Saturday...What a surprise...:E

I hope they don't use the Luftwaffe for Edamers this year (I'll have to move the Squirrel even quicker!).
