Met an old chum today who apparently works for BEL AIR HELICOPTERS of Denmark. I've never heard of them so was wondering what, if anything, is known by Ppruners that they can share with us. Where are they based, what ships do they own/lease what line of work are they in?

I am one of their pilots ..

Concerning what they do or can do, check Bel Air A/S - Helikopter, VIP og taxi flyvning - Forside (http://www.belair.dk) - I know, its in Danish, but probably gives you an idea anyway ..
What they have done so far is anything from sightseeing with H269 to sling load a new roof on a building with a leased-in Super Puma. And experience with offshore as well ..
Today they own a H269, a EC120 and operate a handfull R44's and are based numerous places in Denmark ..

Geoffers. Maybe I'm missing something here, but having met your Chum and been told who he/she works for, why was Chum unable or reluctant to answer your question? It seems odd to have to ask ppruners when you have an inside source already...

He was going in one direction and me in another and no chance to do anything more than say 'Hi, what the hell are you doing here?' I thought he was still with CHC (G) but a quick check with the office turned up a name I had never heard of, and now I know a little more.

Nice first posting Bodgeit n leggit.
Well, maybe the website is promising more than they themselves can handle at present. But looking at some other wannabe sides at least they hold an AOC and run their own operation.
If I'm not mistaken BelAir and Susanne were somehow involved in the foundation of Dancopter (http://www.dancopter.dk/) one of the biggest helicopter companies in Denmark.
So it really can't be that wrong what they are doing...."so far".

Yep, Bel air was Susannes + husbands firm before Dancopter started. So after Susanne and dancopter parted company Bel air was "re born". Suddanly it could do everything in the heli business.
Last thing I heard they where driving ambulances some where in DK.

Thought I might post this news bit, since they (Bel Air) are now flying offshore traffic from my home airport:

Danish helicopter operator Bel Air flies passenger traffic from Malmi Airport - Friends of Malmi Airport Society (http://www.pelastamalmi.org/en/news/belair.html)

The Danish helicopter operator Bel Air A/S has established its base and check-in counter at Malmi Airport. Bel Air's AgustaWestland 139 helicopter arrived at Malmi on Sunday 18 October.
In September, Bel Air won the bid for helicopter operations to M/V Solitaire which lays the Nordstream gas pipeline to the Gulf of Finland. Owned by Allseas Group S.A., the 300-meter-long Solitaire is the world's largest pipelay vessel with a crew of 420 persons.
"We are proud to be selected as the helicopter operator to Allseas", said Bel Air's CEO and pilot Susanne H. Lastein in September. "[Our] base will be Helsinki-Malmi Airport, which proudly stands for decades of aviation - one of the first ever international build airport in the world back in 1938. After several meetings in the Finnish capital - both with the Danish ambassy and others, we are proud to be based at Malmi. Its logistic place is central to our flights in the Gulf of Finland, and it will be a great pleasure to do international flights in and out of Malmi."

It is good to see more small start-up operators. This is an area the IHST is focusing on.
