I have heard on the grapevine that the current shortage of WSOp (Crewman) has prompted a Fastrack system for serving personnel. Has anyone got any information?:ok:

The Crewman short course I believe was a one off at Shawbury and has ended. As for getting through Cranwell any quicker ....who knows!!

Yes It's true...All details have been sent out to all stations...I read it in SRO's and I belive the apptitude tests are at the end of this month. Provided you've got the education qualifications you can go and give it a try. Good luck

Hell, you've got to ask the question; why are they fast tracking people at the moment?

MGD,

I think you know this, but from an earlier posting;

The RAF was short of 88 loadmasters

Harmony wasn't working and the MOD had no idea of consequent divorce rates or the disharmony effect on retention..

Like truth central, I have no idea if the two statements are connected.

Without the risk of incoming !!

Why not use Movers to help ease the shortage...
Works for the Canadians !!

The Canadians drink screech. You could almost train a monkey to do a movers job. Apart from the miserable, gurning fizzog of course. Monkeys do occasionally smile.:{:{

Test Question One.

You are in the Sandpit and word reaches you of possible WSOp opportunities.

What do you do?

Only joking. Stay safe out there.

I think the fast track is only to speed up selection, so please dont think its a 2 week course to flying pay... unless you want fixed wing in which case that time scale is about correct:ok:... and it must be easy enough for monkeys, since an ex-mover just graduated;)

Flt Lt Mac.

Is this for serving members of the RAF only? I ask as I have a friend who is already a RM aircrewman and is keen to transfer.

He has already completed Shawbury, but as a Cpl, is likely to be pushed through ITC.

Any thoughts?

There are several ex movers as well as other trades who went to ALM branch as it was. In fact an ex RAFP mate of mine went the same way..

The point i made about using Movers was that they are already trained in aircraft loading.. therefore when it comes to the weight and balance side and aircraft loading procedures they are already at an advantage over other trades, this then will also produce a cost effective solution for a short term period.

Given my time again, i'd love to do a flying job as i enjoyed my time on Mobile duties/JHSU !!

Good luck to those who go for it..

Flt Lt Mac - I start RTS Halton on Weds and have been told that my NCAITC course will be 241. However, your saying its being filled with Serving Personel. Does that mean I will have to wait? If I pass RTS without reflights etc I will be in holding for 3 months waiting for ITC.

So, the fast track is actually just a slightly quick path in actual fact.

Whilst I understand the rationale of putting personnel selected throught the standard training course to become SNCO Aircrew, why would an established SNCO need to go through the Initial course which is designed to bring a Civvi up to SNCO status in a hurry?

This is where there could be a fast-track and bypass a phase not required.

But read between the lines. There is problems with recruitment and retention and not just in the Flying fraternity. Having said that, on completion of training and posting to rotary, how long can a crewman expect to be within the UK per year? Not exactly a recruiting incentive.

Finger Poking

4 months away on Rotary minimum on ops, then what ever time on exercises etc which don't count towards harmony time !!!!

It's a great life for the single types but when your trying to tell she who must be obyed why your going to the sand pit short notice it does lose its appeal very quickly.:hmm:

There is a difference between NCA and "regular" SNCOs.

As more and more aircraft become 3 crew, the emphasis goes less and less towards NCO qualities and much more towards the airmanship and crew integration aspects.

The man management skills of a "regular" SNCO are not really required at Sgt NCA level, but having the balls to tell your Capt they're about to fook up is very important. (Obviously, only if they are going to fook up!!)

I'm not saying a "regular" SNCO couldn't do it, just pointing out that although they share a rank, they need not share exactly the same skill-set.

That is why the selection process is different, and Logistic Loader, that's why you can't just stick a mover onto the aircraft.

Could be the last?

I've heard that the DE ATC SNCOs on the current course are wanting to transfer or have been broken...........

CBTL, do you mean they find it too hard or don't measure up?

The learning curve is, I am afraid, ever so steep and you have the patitude and capacity or you don't.

the NCAITC isn't all about training people to be a SNCO - it 's about weeding out those unsuitable for further aicrew training- thus saving the Service time effort and MONEY...

Currently there are substantive Sgt (and higher) from various forces going through aircrew training, because they proved suitable for it as aircrew - not because they were already a C/T CPO or Colour Sgt.

Also if you don't want to be away on ops, don't volunteer - simple.
