Now that the fund is building, albeit very slowly at the moment, I am keen to gather interest from Training Captains, Senior Captains and line Captains, as well as senior FO's, with a training background, who are willing to become mentors to the PPRuNe wannabes, and who are willing to put something back into aviation.
If you are not aware of the scheme, briefly, it is designed to give individual support to those who are selected to receive it. A system of selection has already been devised and mentors would be matched to those chosen to receive it. The range of mentors might also cover the whole route into courses and licences. I would also hope that we might get some interest from mentors with a good background in the US, or from US pilots themselves.
Mentoring could, perhaps, be done from a register, which would indicate how much time and contact a mentor is prepared to give. This could include advice via e-mail as well as personal contact from time to time. I would also hope that mentors could arrange jump seat trips to enhance their knowledge on a live flight deck.
The ultimate purpose is to select wannabes who show committment, aptitude, dedication - and above all motivation. This will demanded throughout the whole of their mentoring period.
The final process of selection can lead directly to financial assistance from the PPRuNe Fund, it's ONLY purpose, to help them on their way to a career in an airline.
I will be in touch with many airlines over the coming weeks to seek their help and encouragement, both financial and with a view to accepting and/or sponsoring a PPRuNe wannabe who has demonstrated to his peers a burning desire to enter the profession.
If you wish to help please get in touch with me by e-mail, when I will give you a better idea of how the scheme will work.
Thanks
IFR
