My apologies, unless the Airlines changes contract with their Handling agent no change , but as it seems to be roumoured that PIA might move to another H/A , i hope not, as its my firm their in talks with, also Air India might be moving to another H/A, so that might mean the demise of Servisair at LHR, as for Aviance, there is a rumour of something big between them and PH ( merger ??? ) as usual there is that familiar smell in the air !! BULL**** i think it's called...:D

Is that PH as in Plane Handling ?? , because Aviance already own Plane Handling.

'Own' ... yes, but they operate separately and independantly. I think that I read something on the side of one of their tugs ... something about being 'part of the Go-Ahead Group'.

From what I've seen, they don't use each others people or equipment for their own flights, so they would seem to be separate.

Also, from what I've seen 'out the window' PH only seem to do larger aircraft types (747s, A340s, etc) while Aviance do a lot of smaller types also. I'm sure the "'who handles who" thread will have some answers.

Which smaller Aircraft would that be ? The Singapore A380, The Qantas A380, Jet Airways 777-300, Etihad or South African A340-600 ?

Aviance is part of "A Go Ahead Company"

Both Aviance and Plane Handling are part of " The Go -Ahead Group " Aviance are the parent company of Plane Handling , but Plane Handling actually make a profit and Aviance doesn't, hence the closure of Aviance at Gatwick.

Plane Handling are primarilary a Ramp / Cargo Company offering only Ramp / Pushback / trucking services, whereas Aviance offer the complete package of all of the above plus Check in / Baggage Tracing / Operations & Dispatch, it means that when tendering for contracts (ie) Qantas there is a bigger array of services on offer in the package and airlines don't have to split handlers or be self handling above wing, which is the case with all PH's current contracts at LHR (ie) Virgin, Saudi & Cathay, Plane previously handled Thai which was SGS above wing but when they began Ramp Operations lost it as a package to them.

The inability to offer passenger handling is probably a handicap as in addition to Aviance all other handlers, Alitalia (or whatever they are called now), SGS, Cobalt, Servisair, Air Canada, United, American etc all have that to offer.

Blue Shamrock,
The smaller types Aviance "also" handle are:
Lufthansa, bmi, Iberia/Click, Swiss, Biman A310 (if you call that small),

Don't Forget Kibris A320 / 321 / 738, also Ethiopian 757 & Turkmenistan 757 ( would you call them small0, basically i think Aviance tend to cover virtually all shapes & Sizes of Aircraft

As I understand it, if Go Ahead keep Aviance and PH seperate, then that takes up another handling agent license at LHR, but if they merged them then that would open up another license to a competitor.

Not sure if that's right, but thats what I'd heard, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Watch out for Menzies in T3 already moved in with Finnair , and with LOT moving to T3 , it won't be long !!!! more lower pay workers , names ending in ski !!

grenadier, Menzies is taking over, they virtually has half of t2 and a lot of t1. Menzies is now moving T2 ops to T1 as t2 closes. Airlines handled are Luftansa, Swiss, Austrian, Croatian, TAP air portugal. In T1 Menzies handles LOT polish, (which ISN'T moving to T3 as it is staying with its star alliance partner in T1) Air New Zealand, Aer Lingus, Iceland Air and Cyprus Air. Add this to T3 Finnair and you will see Menzies has quite a lot of airlines under its belt. There are rumors that United and BMI are considering handling by Menzies.

From a Menzies employee who's name doesnt end in "ski". u ******* knob.

Guys what's the limted number on the handling licences at Heathrow and does it take account of specialised third party handlers or airlines who do third party handling like Air Canada and United as well?

Is this about right for the non airline handlers?

Cobalt
Servisair
Menzies
Aviance
Plane Handling

SOE
in the mid 90`s, BAA tried to limit the number of handlers to 2 per terminal, if i remember rightly (a long time ago!). the good old EU got involved and the ruling was that this was anti-competitive. the result was the opposite to what BAA wanted in that LHR had to be opened up to any handler who could show that they were qualified to do the job. hence in 1999 the addition of Plane and Globeground, and in more recent years SAS and Menzies.

so as far as i am aware there is no upper limit to handlers, although we now have too many handlers chasing too little business. what we are now seeing is handlers like menzies and cobalt aligning themselves with global airline alliances, and with the alliances grouping around specific terminals, we may eventually see the plan that BAA had all those years ago finally coming into being.
