I am looking for airfields with good convenient hotels - any ideas?

To get the ball rolling the Aviator at Sywell looks interesting Sywell Aerodrome - Hotel (http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk/hotel.php) any feedback?

My home base Rochester EGTO has a 4 star Holiday Inn next door with a swimming pool etc, a bit sterile but very convenient and I think the tower can get a special rate.

I've stayed at the Aviator a few times. Good hotel, reaonable charges and good food.

You know about Abbeville, of course....? Basic motel but you can park outside your window. And the food's good.

Yes, everyone knows about Abbeville.

A personal favourite further south is Nogaro, where the nearest hotel is 200 yds away over the road and others can be found in the town a short walk t'other way.

Likewise, and I enjoy the art-deco styling and 1920s/1930s aviation theme.

This hotel is walking distance from the airport and keenly priced £50 or so per night, with a pub/restaurant adjacent to it.

It is relatively new and not grotty at all.

Though it doesn't have its own website
The White Heather at Kirkbride Airfield, Cumbria (used to be the officers mess for RAF Kirkbride).

Don't know what the accommodation is like, but the meals are good, parking in the "car park" next to the hotel (direct access along the main taxiway).

Laughlin, Nevada (KIFP) has some great casion hotels just across the river from the airport. Walk out of the FBO, cross the highway, pick up the taxi boat to the hotels. Cheap as chips and great quality. Free booze if you are gambling...

Not quite Europe but well worth a visit if you are in that neck of the woods!

Provides links to all UK airports and airfields and lists bookable hotels, and details about local taxis and restaurants. It also includes their distance from the airport, airfield or airstrip.

If up in Scotland, Feshiebrige in the cairngorms (most of the b&Bs will come and get you) - lovely long grass strip. Glenforsa (fantastic place), Crosland Moor (near Saddleworth), Saddleworth Hotel will come and get you if you ask nicely (usually in their roller - but avoid weekends in the summer as they are busy with weddings), St Mary's on the scillies is only a fivers cab fare from loads of B&Bs, Croft Farm (nr Defford), good B&B's 5 mins walk, Oaksey Park (B&B short walk from field), Hawarden (Hillbark House hotel on the wirral will normally pick you up - excellent hotel but not cheap - the other half will love it though),

Would be interested to hear about others as favourite pastime is exploring new places for overnight stops in the plane!

Ganderkesee (Germany) on the field, this one is rather nice.
Bad Pyrmont (Germany) on the field
Aalen (Germany) on the field
Mengen(Germany) on the field
Ameland(Netherlands) about 5 minutes walking.(Hotel Nobel)

The German islands in the Northsea, Borkum, Juist, Nordeney, Baltrum, Wangerooge, Langeoog have or a hotel on the field or one close to the field. If I remember well Baltrum and Wangerooge are PPR.

I think Teuge has an old Tupelov, converted into classy hotel, on the airfield!

Pricey though.

At Corfu LGKR you can stay at the Hotel Bretagne. A short walk from the airport.

The plumbing in the shower is impressive in how many regional wars it has outlasted :)

That's basically the thing. There are "hotels" all over the place - if you are happy to sleep like a university student on a gap year :)

For Dublin, wonderful Weston has the Lucan Spa close by, just about walkable with a wheely bag but better if you can get a lift.

If visiting Shuttleworth the Green Man at Stanford is a 5 minute taxi run away. Great food and drink, clean modern rooms and great value.
On occasion the owner has driven us back to the airfield. Don't expect an e mail answer from the website.
