The Christchurch City Council is considering using a plane fitted with infra-red vision to detect energy wasting households that aren't insulated properly.

The paucity of intelligence at local government level in New Zealand is astounding. Only in the South Island could they come up with a scheme designed to cut energy use by flying around in a plane.

Rocks.

How much energy does a spy plane consume?

Its a good way to spot indoor hydroponic drug crops too.

Hope they use something environmentally friendly like a AC560 Shrike Commander, AC680 Grand Commander, Beech Queenair, Twin Bonanza,
C337 Skymaster, PiaggioP166 while on these spying missions.

The technology works.
The camera will detect hot air leaks around roofs windows etc.
Could save a lot in energy/heating costs.
Maybe it's time to put more sheep in the attic?
Sweet dreams kiwi's:=

But they can afford insulation!
I wonder if it can detect the plume of a SAM?:hmm:

Australia could send all the Kiwis back to plug all the leaks, and free up the housing shortage. :)

What a waste of money. Seeing all the houses in Christchurch arn't insulated all they will be getting is a screen full of red and yellow pigments :)

Kiwi governments.. love em

The "Spy plane" used is probably a RNZA Cessna 152 , the Aerobat with an unpolished spinner for steath work.
