Not a P-38?

Maybe missing centre section?

Imagine upside down, with those funny helmet looking things where the wheels would have been... (Flap down (up) at the back)

looks like Gloster meteor or something like that ie. single seat fighter, 1950's era. (and no, I'm not putting money on it :}).

Look like DC-3 centre section, lying upside down.

I was thinking DC3 at first however it has retracts and the wheels would either be out in the open or away in the fuse, so there would be no need for those cover things. They don't make sense.

Not a meteor as they were Jet powered and this thing looks to clearly have had piston jobbies and you can see where the engine mounts were by the look of it.

PK-RDB
Previously NZ3537/ZK-AOZ/5W-FAA
Written off at Darwin in Cyclone Tracy

This aeroplane had main gear doors.

VH-XXX, If I were you :) I'd post this in Aviation History and Nostalgia. You'll have an answer in minutes. Well - soon.

PS. Disregard. Fris B has it. DC-3 with wheel spats. :ok:

See Post # 10 here. Very same aircraft - with spats - and alive.

The DC-3 / C-47 with gear doors that I was familiar with was known as the McDermott mod, fully enclosed mains, retracting tail wheel, modified engine cowls with smaller frontal inlet, sometimes fixed cowl flaps, collector exhaust system with short stacks and deflector. IIRC TAS was around 170k. Engineering nightmare from the simplicity of the original design. Alan.

The original museum in Gardens Hill Crescent. Been looking at that junk just around the corner from my house for over 20 years. Anyone from Darwin city council here? Please clean it up.

The one at the left of the photo looks like a Beagle 206. Alan.

I'm with meade. If it's not the Beagle then it's a 400 series Cessna cut off behind the cockpit???

I agree with the thought that the other aircraft looks like a Beagle. They had great visibility from the cockpit for a twin.

Its a 401, also trashed by Tracey.
Lemmesee, there was another 402A and a Dove that someone rode out from East Timor.
Mostly its a feckin' eyesore.
Oh, in the shed someone is supposedly restoring a Nomad.

C421 Golden Eagle, don't have the rego, totalled in Tracy.

There's a bit more lying around and/or undergoing work. You should drop by and check it out on Sunday mornings. :E

I'll let you know when they plan to fire up the Avon. :E:E
