ATCNoob 22nd March 2009, 20:56 No word of a lie - I was on EK011 and was stuck at Gatwick for 10 hours!!! The alarm was only raised 10 mins before landing and we were stuck on the plane for over an hour before they brought the mobile stairs to pick us up. There were 'snipers' on the hills next to us which made me quite worried about what was going on as we had NO details whatsoever. We were then taken to a secure gate and we were held there for a couple of hours while they took our personal details. We were then interviewed separately being asked if we saw/heard anything suspicious etc etc...Then we all waited further.......then 'new' evidence was found which meant we ALL had to be screened further so they took video footage of all of us and asked us our eye colour, clothing details, height etc etc etc and they also took our fingerprints. After just under 10 hours we were thanked and released.
Fair play to them, they had to do it but I just wanted to have nice warm cup of coffee!!!!!!!
g_attrill 23rd March 2009, 07:38 News reports (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/7957808.stm) are saying a note was found in a toilet, one man was arrested.
footlight 23rd March 2009, 13:11 Virgin flight was routed to Las Vegas. Skipper reported loss of engine oil and return to Gatwick on three from West Of Ireland was routine. An example of four engines are better than two!:)
vespasia 23rd March 2009, 13:14 BA was inbound from Jersey, I think, reported possible impact damage (maybe a birdstrike?) but landed OK. MON A300 departed on a gear down ferry to Manchester about 2010 (ish), but not sure what the original destination was.

Northern Hero 23rd March 2009, 22:58 And don't forget the Malev with hot brakes on a local standby..........
Charley B 26th March 2009, 18:49 Think the MON A 300 destination was to Sharm -el Sheikh.
GeorgEGNT 27th March 2009, 04:35 I'm sure I read somewhere the MON aircraft was bound for Luxor? Could be wrong.
Charley B 27th March 2009, 21:38 Think both the MON Sharm -el -sheikh on Sunday, and the one to Luxor on Monday-had to make a return to Lgw!!!
Poss the problem recurred, think it was the same aircraft:ugh:
