Laptops Out again at LHR and GLA

... [T]ravellers flying out of Heathrow and Glasgow airports must once again remove their laptops from hand luggage when passing through security, following the end of a trial by The Department for Transport.

The two BAA airports had been granted permission to allow their passengers to leave laptops inside hand luggage, but this special dispensation has now been removed while the DfT evaluates the results of the 18-month trial.

I suppose it was beyond the wit of the DfT to start evaluating after, say, 12 months, so the trial could have moved smoothly on to allow laptops as a routine? :ugh:

The DfT have no brain. At all.

To use a non-aviation related example, the TransPennine rail franchise is due to be renewed in a few years. Despite the company currently running the franchise having one of the best reliability and performance records of all operators in the UK, more than doubling passenger numbers, making record profits etc - the DfT, who manage rail franchises, intend to strip the franchise off this company. Absurd isn't it?

Back to the topic - removing laptops for screening was rushed back in about a month ago (with about 1 day's notice to travellers). Ridiculous...
