A threat on AirNZ's staff website mentioned an additional 777-300 order, and sure enough its on the Boeing website also taking firm orders to 5 now.

I may have been in la la land for the past wee while, but just curious to when this extra order took place. I thought it stood at 4 with 3 options? Guess not.

Well I have some interesting news for anyone wanting some brand new B744F's (3 or 4 of them) and the odd B777F's................... some being whitetailed and sent to a dry climate, so likely to be going cheap to an astute buyer!;)

Not exactly sure about the PAX version 777's but there could be some of those come up for grabs too as various airlines fall victim to cash problems.

Now if QF were smart they could get some 744F's cheap and run a decent freight service, not that I know much about that, but it sounds like a good idea!

Maybe Air NZ have scored a slot for a 773 that was freed up elsewhere?

They placed orders for the 777-300ER quite a while ago, or are we specifically talking the 300?

Im sure they placed the order somewhere around 06/07 for deliveries around 2012, to replace the 744 and 772.

They've brought the delivery of an extra 300 forward, taking the initial amount to 5 with 3 more down the track (or maybe 4?). Possibly a surplus hull off the production line I believe???

I've heard that A319 may be looked at as it's a similar size to the 733. The A320 is still considered by many to be a big aircraft for NZ Domestic ops. Likewise the 738...

Im pretty sure they wont get the Airbus. I herd some rumour, not sure if its true or not, but basically it was that Air NZ Signed some agreement with Boeing to not buy anymore Airbus aircraft. It sounds really silly, so Im sceptical, but I think the 738 would be a better aircraft anyway.

boeing owes air nz a favour or two* in return for the 787 delays,i reckon -700's* with a mix of -800's an -900ers* would be the go,maybe some 767-400ers* or 777-200lrs* to fill the gap as well

What's the bet they would try the A319/A320, operate under the Zeal320 certificate/structure and lower costs by putting all the domestic hosties on the same Z320 cabin crew contract...

Going with A3** would be a stupid option, the turn around times on them are much higher than the 737's, Parts are harder to get, and much more expensive and the aircraft themselves are more expensive to run. With jetstar and pac blue in the market, it would be shooting themselves in the foot to run with the airbus.

As for the 777-300. We had the 4 on firm order, with I think it was another 4? or option, we just firmed up one of the options, no big deal, I believe that firmed option is just going straight overseas to the middle east to be leased.
