Am I right in thinking that they are to be the next squadron to stand up with Typhoons?

6 Sqn will build at RAF Coningsby begining Dec 09. It will then move as a unit to RAF Leuchars forming on 1 Oct 09. :ok:

I was looking up 6 Sqn history today - the whole 'Flying Can Openers' (that started as 'Tin' Openers when equipped with Hurricanes on Anti-Armour ops in the desert).

I still smile at the photographes showing the red on pale blue logo on the side of Jaguar air intake nacelles.:ok:

SENTRYBOD,

I see, thanks. They're not following historical precedent then?

PrOOn, nice to see someone from 54(R) posting here...Everyone knows that 6 sqn RAFO (or SOAF to old soaks) was the best 6 sqn around. And the Hunter probably went a bit faster than the cat...

Pr000ne,

If you want to read history then do it properly - I think you'll find that quite a few sqns vacated their airstrips in a bit of a hurry in the early days of WWII. What would you have done - let your aircraft be captured intact? Destroy them unnecessarily?

Or man up and make the hard choice?

At LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Capt Kirk.

Still, only ONE squadron was called SHI**Y SIX and only ONE squadron had songs written about it...................

Only one sqn had songs written about it??? Your repertoire must be very limited! And why mask Shiney six?!!

Now Pr000ne, I served with both auspicious sqns and the fishing season closed at the weekend!

Well Capt, I only served with one of them, as well as a much less auspicious lot out in Germany, so I am sure you can appreciate that I am referring to the KIND of songs sung about SH1TTY S1X with one subject in mind. Seemed to work in crewrooms in places such as Coningsby and Akrotiri.

I must point out to Proone that one of the songs of my period on shiney six included the line:

'Oh what a cock-up, how they got shot up, poor old 54'

So songs were not exclusively written about six although there was much to sing about in those days.
