Hello,

I am going to move to Japan in 2 or 3 months. I don't have my PPL now but I was considering starting soon.

I was wondering, is it hard to start a PPL there as a foreigner? I have heard it's much more expensive than in other countries (lot of japanese people go oversea to do it), what should I expect?
Any cheap aeroclub good for foreigner that you know?

I was also hesitating about starting training in France during the two months before going there (JAA), but it depends if hours are transferable (I doubt I can have it in 2 months), and how complicated/expensive it is for foreigner to do it fully in Japan.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, it's hard for me to dig site in Japanese.

Thanks

Expensive, Yes. VERY
Difficult, don't know but certainly converting a foreign license is not "easy"

There are not many school around and only 2 that I know of that have english speakers. (though not english websites)

Where will you be based?

Try Alpha Aviation. They have a few schools around that may suit.

Looks more like an helicopter school, and 200 km away from Tokyo.
But I will give it a try, thanks!

I'm going back to work next week, I'll ask some of our Japanese pilots that I know had their training in Japan and get some options for you.

The Dominican, any chance you had some feedbacks from those pilots in Japan?
