Will be interesting to see if Air China becomes a major player outside of the PRC. Would be priceless to see a Chinese businessman saying "every-ting ire mon!" :ok:

As the end of March deadline approaches for the privatisation of Air Jamaica there is still no news regarding a potential buyer.

It is believed that there are three parties seriously interested in Air Jamaica and rumours persist that one of them is Air China. However the tender process contains a clause that hides the identities of any potential investors unless the investor chooses to allow their identity to be known.

A new flight schedule begins today which will eliminate services between Jamaica and Los Angeles, Atlanta Hartsfield, Miami, Grand Cayman, Barbados and Grenada.

This will result in a reduction in Air Jamaica’s fleet from 14 aircraft to nine and job cuts as a result. In order to minimize the impact on employees, management will be issuing a Voluntary program this week, which will include Early Retirement, Voluntary Separation and Leave of Absence, to be implemented before the end of next month.

Although Air Jamaica’s management announced that it had not determined the exact number of job losses when it presented its 2009/2010 Business Plan, the Jamaican Airline Pilots' Association is expecting a 30 per cent reduction in employee numbers which would account for about 40 pilots out of the 149 employed by the airline.
