I am going to go do my initial JAA medical in London next month and I was looking over the forms for the exam, and I notice a CAA Reference Number. Will that number be assigned to me at the exam or is it something that I have to get before I go? If so, how do I get one? Searching of the internet has failed to produce any results.

It will be assigned to you, unless you already have a CAA licence in which case it is your licence number. If you haven't got a licence yet, it will be your eventual licence number.

If you read the guidance noes that comes with the appliation form it says if this is an initial application to write Initial where it asks for the CAA reference number.
Hope that helps :ok:

If you already have a licence it is the main number,

eg. if your licence is a PPL:-

PP/123456/C

then your reference number is 123456

You will keep that number for life, even if you get a higher licence.

If its an initial application then you won't have a number yet.

Once the number has been assigned, you are given 28 days to get it tattooed onto the back of your neck:ok:
