Does anyone remember how to work out intercept vectors on the old whizz wheel?

I knew about 20 years ago but too many brain cells have died in the meantime!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Don't know if this is any use. It's an online Dalton vector simulation thingy.

Firstly work out the Line of Constant Bearing (LCB) - that is, the bearing of the ship from you at the mo.

1. Mark on wind
2. Mark on ship's vector below the wind
3. Set LCB under the True Course Marker (TCM)
3. stabilise to the ship dot
4. Read off:
Int. hdg under TCM
G/S under Wind Dot
Closing speed under ship dot
Apply drift from wind dot to the hdg. This gives track flown

The theory is of course great but in practice we never did it. You took last known position, calculated a furthest on, looked at the chart and made an esitmate of time to go, adjusted the furthest on if necessary and went for it.

This was good enough as you never knew the target course and speed. If it was a friendly force you would be aiming for ZZ and could about guarantee the ships would not be there :)
