ground school instructor

Hello all,

I was wondering today about how I could endulge my want to teach without paying for an FI rating (im not in a position to) and also fill my weekends with aviation.

In order to teach ground school to PPL students do you legally require the AOPA certificate or will my ATPL subjects and commercial licence be enough?

The reason I ask is that I want to help people out in the less exciting classroom on the theoretical side.

If I do require the cert where could I do it around the midlands and how much?

Ontrack at Wellesbourne for the GI certificate.

Dont see much demand for it in PPL as most students do it by self study.

There is no approved ground school required for a PPL, therefore there is no such thing as an approved ground school instructor at PPL level.

I recently responded to an advert for PPL ground school instructors at Almat.

I would imagine they would want either an FI or someone with teaching experience. I will have a look at the GI course at Ontrack thank you!

The ground school instructor course is advertised at £1575, seems a hell of alot of money for a ground based course.:eek:

If you are going to teach ATPL groundschool, then fine, but there is no requirement for any certificate for PPL groundschool as already been mentioned.

Anyone could set themselves up as a PPL ground instructor.

I was just wondering whether a flying school that does ground school for PPL subjects would like to see you holding a certificate like that or some form of teaching qualification/experience.

Helping people for aviation theory is as important as practice in flight.
And there are many that need theory assistance, includes even PPL level.

You are making an effort for your CAA/JAR licencing.
How about making the same effort to get the FAA ground instructor certificates...?
Just a few extra subjects to teach, independently, or with FAA FTOs.
Holding a FAA Ground Instructor ADV/INSTR, you can teach any FAA subject.
A small investment, and certificate never expires.

Any place where FAA written exams can be taken...
Is there a Flight Safety in UK...? -
If not, there is a FAA Office in Frankfurt, Germany.
I guess you must pay to do these exams nowadays.

For FAA Gnd Instructor, there are 3 tests to pass.
(1) Fundamentals of Instruction
(2) Basic Ground Instructor
(3) Instrument Ground Instructor
In the good old days, that was free.

For the record while the Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate does not expire in the US, you cannot use it unless you've taught for at least three months in the previous 12, or received an endorsement of proficiency from another current FI or GI.
