Sad to say the BBC are reporting the following:
French helicopter crash-click (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7835920.stm)

Edit: Other sources reporting the aircraft as a Cougar with ten on board.

I just heard on French radio news that all French Cougars are grounded. I'll post a link if I can find one. Might this have repercussions for RAF Pumas?

Doubt it. Pumas are quite different from Cougars in terms of both engines, transmission, main and tail rotors.

Interesting way to do business - French Defence Minister ordered to oversee the rescue operation. I would rather it was looked after by a professional if I needed rescue.

I am sure it is being run very professionally. Defence Minister presence is primarily PR.
