Air Austral has ordered 2 A380's for running services from Reunion to Paris in an all economy 840 passengers configuration.

Just hope they have enough loo's.

...those "high-density" Corsair 744's (I think around 550 pax) pale into insignificance now

Can someone explain to me how Air Austral is able to economically fly the A380 in 840 all economy cabin whereas people like MOL and Tony Fernandes see it imperative that any long haul flight needs a premium cabin for it to be profitable?

Is it that Air Austral will charge a full service economy class fare opposed to a low cost (I dispute AirAsia X's claim to this!) fare?

I doubt if they will do it all-Y class; here is a link to their 77W seating plan and as you'll see they have a J class and a Y+ product as well.

In fairness, though, the reporting of the original order last year (http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/01/15/321144/air-austral-to-take-840-seat-a380s-in-2014.html) did confirm that they had chosen an 840-seat single class layout.
