Has anybody any ideas on events we could hold in north west of England. which will get alot of interest from fellow flyers?

I am looking forward to summer and want to make flying a little bit more interesting and challenging. Im looking for any ideas from flyouts, flour bombing etc....

Cheers:ok:

Hi Andy,

One exercise you might like to try is one we had at a fly-in last year, devised by Andy H at Maypole. It involves a pre-defined route including VRP’s, VOR’s etc. As preparation, you need to fly the route and take pictures of some good visual features, motorway junctions, distinctive habitation, river crossings etc. We had around 12 pictures to identify.

Each participant is given a sheet with the route displayed and the pictures in random order. If you make the route ‘local’, participants can go round it either way. The aim is to place the pictures in the correct order that they are encountered en-route. For added interest, each participant states an average speed for the route. The winner is the crew who get all the pictures in the right order and complete the route at their stated speed.

We had a range of aircraft participating, from microlights to Piper Arrows. The other advantage is that non-flying friends and partners can take part as observers, so spreading the fun of the event. No one at the event managed to get all the pictures in the right order.

Another favourite for fly-ins is spot landing competitions. I seem to recall that flour bombing requires permission from the CAA, as officially you are not allowed to drop things from aeroplanes.

Have fun what ever you do.

Safe Flying,
Richard W.

Hi Andy

Not my idea but why not try the Poker Fly Off Challenge (all day event)

Idea is to go to 5 local airfields and leave a packet of cards (with a responsible person) before the event day. On the day each pilot deposits a small amount into a kitty flies to each of the 5 airfields collecting 1 card from each pack returning to the home airfield to play their hand against other teams, best hand wins the kitty.

If the flying club charges a day rate for non-member passengers then this could be added to the kitty as well.

You can limit the airfields by giving a card out at the home field on departure and even reduce numbers further still by repeating this on return.

This can be flown by any number of pilots, you could also organise a lunch meet at the middle airfield, perhaps even negotiate free landings with the operator there!

Be good to hear other ideas!
