Hi Everyone,

I need to replace the ELT in my plane before the Feb 1 deadline. Can anyone recommend a brand/model that is both light, portable and does not need to be affixed to the airframe?

If it's not fixed to the airplane it's not an ELT, but a PLB, I think.

Main difference, apart from the obvious, is that an ELT is shock (crash) activated and a PLB always needs to be activated manually.

On the other hand, if you ditch an aircraft the ELT will go down with it, while a PLB can be taken with you into the water.

Moet ik een ELT inplaatsen in de vliegtuig of is een PLB ook geldig?

That depends on a lot of factors. CofA, permit, airspace involved, aerial work, passengers or not, MTOW, you name it.

McMurdo Fastfind Max G seems to be fairly popular - 406 MHz and 121.5 MHz with GPS.

I would suggest you check with the Dutch authorities to see what they have approved for use.

Just because something is approved in one country don't assume it is approved elsewhere.

This is Europe you are talking about.
