How do I turn this bloody thing off- Every web page I visit it blocks it with an advert to tell me to register the bloody thing. I have an anti virus running and am happy with it. But this thing doesnt appear in my control panel (remove programmes) list and I cant turn it off in the security settings in Control panel?

Anyone got a suggestion?

Here's one way (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/remove-ms-antispyware-2009) - there are loads of links on Google.

I've read a lot about this and its variants. SD's link should work. MBAM is competent with this infection.
You might possibly need to rename the installer file, and the main executable once installed, to get it to run. Try the "normal" way first, though.
Superantispyware is another that's good for nuking many of the variants of this.
For prevention, if it was via a drive-by download, you need to disable or prompt for scripting in the browser.
If it was from happy-clicking, you already know the prevention means.
