View Full Version : USB-VGA converter recommendations sought

My wife has an ASUS 1000H Eee PC that strikes the best balance we've both ever found between portability and usability for every day web / mail / photo / chat usage. Highly recommended.

When she's sat at the desk in her home office however - and especially when viewing high quality photographs - it would be nice to take advantage of the spare VGA flatscreen (physically larger and much higher resolution than the 1024x600 of the Eee) and wireless keyboard and mouse that we have knocking around. Rather than fiddle to plug in both a VGA and USB plug each time however, I would like to use a USB 2.0 to VGA converter to give her just one plug (USB) to worry about. ie connect the Eee to an external USB 2.0 hub when needed and leave the hub permanently connected to keyboard & mouse transceiver plus VGA converter.

Recommendations for the latter or downsides of such a technique learned through experience?

Targus, who are one of the main laptop accessory companies do this one:
Targus Mobile Docking Station with Video (http://www.targus.com/uk/product_Details.asp?SKU=ACP50EU) Google it and you can find some lower prices than the RRP shown on the Targus site.

Many thanks to you both for helping, srobarts and gg.

After reading the info available, both devices seems to do exactly what I wish, all in one box, but as the Startech product has the better screen resolution capabilities it is the one I will pursue.

Cheers,
