The Mail today suggests that people using IE are best advised to change to Firefox, Opera or such, due to the massive hacking.
It seems that MS are more than concerned that a fraudsters are getting more adept at getting at our passwords etc., and that millions are at risk!
Where did this suddenly leap from? It can't have happened overnight.
Anyone with up to date info?

Local reversing of passwords from IE is trivial and has always been so. Remotely exploitable vulnerabilities are completely different.

That depends how well the computer is protected, remember we are talking about the great unwashed.

Yeah, the media do this about, oh, every five minutes or so. Most people ignore them and survive perfectly happily.
What none of these news articles do, probably on account of the journos who write them haven't a clue what they're wittering about, which might be actually useful, is tell you what sort of dodgy web site to avoid visiting and what activities to avoid performing whilst there. Then you could make an informed decision.

I suspect you can probably guess! :}
What I'm never sure about is whether this is just the usual stuff that goes on day to day and for which you're pretty well protected if you have firewall/anti-virus/windows updates or is it something more serious? You can't really draw any conclusion from the reporting as it may just be a quiet news day.

Patch released yesterday evening (UK) and on 'Update'. Affects virtually all IEs

just a little contri - something I use for added general online protection - I Hate Keyloggers: free to download. Anti-Key-Logger, Keylogger Remover, etc. (http://dewasoft.com/privacy/i-hate-keyloggers.htm)
Free and works very well. stops keyloggers dead.
Agree with everyone else - dump IE forever. Firefox for me!

OK, all you Firefox fanciers - I tried to update IE for this new security glitch and couldn't get the download. Downloaded Firefox and am using it instead, one problem so far is that I don't get the "Tooltip" type popup when I hover over a thread title. I've always found this quite useful. How do I get it in Firefox?

OK you learn something new every day - you only get these when logged in. You don't have to login to read posts anymore, when you install a new browser you are not logged in so you don't see them, then when you login to post you can see the popups!!
