I have a photo album that my granfather created during WWII.
All I know is he was with the RAF, a mechanic and particularly worked on Spitfires.
If you have any info could you please tell me. I know there are millions of these cases. I guess it's like saying, "I saw some guy on TV, can you tell me about him"...

I also have a picture of what I believe to be a Miles M-14, any info on that, I see theres a tail number. Can I somehow trace the AC's history?

Thanks any dudes that can help...:ok:

Well, you can obviously Google for info on 129 Sqdn. You could also log onto (and subscribe) to WW2 talk forums which will give you access to a lot of information about tracing an ancestor (!) and where to apply for service record, medal entitlement etc. I assume that you don't have any info from your Dad about HIS Dad's background, other relatives etc??
Try these avenues and hope that you can fill in the gaps!!
You may need to resize the image(s) you are trying to upload, search on this site for tips on pictures and see if they help! Good luck!

The aircraft at Post #1 is a Miles Magister Mk1 which as LambOfGod rightly states had the Maker's designation M.14A.

A good friend of mine flew with 129 (Mysore) Sqn from Hornchuch in 1943, F/Lt Mervyn Young but sadly he died in 2006.

Mervyns Spit' was coded D-VR.

I found some history on the Sqn :-

No 129 (Mysore) Squadron

Planned as day bomber squadron to be equipped with DH9s, it formed at Duxford on 1 March 1918 but disbanded on 4 July 1918.

It was reformed on 16 June 1941 as a fighter squadron at Leconfield, becoming operational in July and moving south in August. Here it took part in the normal round of offensive sweeps and escort missions. From September 1942 until February 1943, the squadron moved north to defend the Orkneys

The squadron was allocated to 2 TAF in June 1943 and in April 1944 began re-equipping with Mustangs. Having supported the operations in Normandy the squadron was placed on 'Anti-Diver' patrols from July to September after which it was re-located to East Anglia from where it was able to provide long range escort protection to daylight raids carried out by Bomber Command. With the end of hostilities in Europe it move to Norway in June returning to the UK in November. It spent its last few months of existence moving around Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Germany before being disbanded by being re-numbered as 257 Squadron at Church Fenton on 1 September1946.

The squadron has so far had more further period of life, when No 233 OCU at Pembrey was given the 129 numberplate as a 'shadow' designation on 11 Jan 1956. Equipped with Hunter F Mk 1s the squadron was disbanded again on 1 September 1957.
