"The MoD blamed civilian contractors for the delay."

Veterans Minister Kevan Jones told The Sun: “This situation is totally unacceptable. The servicemen and women affected deserve an apology from us."

Nope, they'd be happy if you resigned I think. After sacking the spineless incompetent twonks who seem to infest public life at just about every level these days of course.

I went to Aldershot just the once. In 2003 for a resettlement briefing.

I had a mental image of manicured lawns, white-painted ropes, burnished brass cannons, ramrod-straight sergeant majors in bulled boots..... Or at least somewhere as 'spit and polish' as RAF Catterick once was.

Wrong, it was a squalid dump in the main. Much of the accommodation looked like something out of the worst inner city sink estate. I was very surprised that the 'Home of the British Army' was quite such an utter tip.

No doubt all due to overtstretch, underfunding and the creeping cancer of contractorisation - I hate to think what it must be like after a further 5 years of neglect. Hardly somewhere fit for heroes, I would imagine.

As my boss once said, many decades ago, the Turks survived the Korean POW camps far better than the US soliders as they were used to such austere conditions.

Maybe that is why the army didn't spend mpney on infrastructure but just took over the redundant, well-maintained, Trenchard legacy.

hoat, coat, find my own way out
