Propaganda (http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=77166&sectionid=351020101) or an element of truth? Either time will tell or this and the Iranian test firing of a new air-to-air missile (http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=77088&sectionid=351020101) will merely prompt Israel into action (before the handover of power in Washington?).

Can't see it myself.

That technology is easy to develop. I've even built one myself. It's in my shed.

Hmm... seems a bit of propaganda BS to me. To go from the reversed engineering of the F-5 Freedom Fighter to some stealthy fighter.

Perhaps the "small prototype" is a radio-controlled "stealth" plane?

We've been doing it for years so why can't the Iranians have caught up?

You can actually see the evidence any day of the week at Marham or Lossie. look at the sqn boards - they all plan as 4-ships but only one or two, will be seen to get airborne.

It is necessary to have the masking switched off on at least one so that the formation may be seen.

Opps, black car approaches

Bet it goes even faster with the intake blanks removed.....

27mm, nah, they are part of the stealth technology. Absorb radar energy and increase ionisation of exhaust gases.

Anything that stays inside its hangar for fear of being picked off by an F-22 et al will always be:

'invisible to enemy eyes'...

One wonders if Iran will be visible when the Israelis have finished with it.

There was a picture published in the Press a couple of years back of a mock up of an Iranian 'Stealth Trainer' - Edit - amazing what you can find by Google!!)

I think that was a mock-up. There was a model of their proposed "stealth" plane, but it looks more like a single-engined F-18 type:

The Iranians also claimed to have designed and flown a stealth flying boat with a great big engine plonked on the middle of the fuselage.

Well I doubt it will be very good, even the B2 can be followed on radar.

When one does get shot down, we can always say Ooooooppppppppssss sorry didn't see it there.

Back in the early days of stealth aircraft, the joke was that the Lockheed Whatever on its way cross-country checked in with ATC as it left the MOA. "Denver Center, Stealth 074's with you, climbing through flight level 370 on the way to 410."

"Roger Stealth 074," Denver replied, "radar contact."

Given the skepticism expressed by a few here, perhaps a good name for this new Iranian stealth aircraft might be "The Emperor'sNewClothes"?

Seems a bit of a Noo Labour-esque announcement: sounds great, but lots of spin and far removed from the reality of events.

The design of the aircraft has been completed and the preliminary models of these aircrafts are being constructed

Great ...... I could design a stealth aircraft too. Just give me a sharp HB pencil and some drawing paper, and in maybe an afternoon or so, I could have come up with the bones of something. Building it is something entirely different.

If the B-2 proved so costly that the US govt massively reduced the numbers ordered, how do the Iranians think they are going to resource and fund their project. Or maybe they will just make a load of airfix models of B2s and claim they have a stealth sqn.

Erm, call me a bluff old traditionalist, but don't most nations try to keep information regarding any stealthy stuff, stealthily? :bored:

That flying boat thingy scares me, lots. :)

I'd say we have aircraft invisible to OUR eyes, never mind the oppo. Chinook Mk3.........

But an ekranoplan - very similar to Lippisch/RFB X113 and smaller Russian designs of the 1960s.

See: The WIG Page - information about Ekranoplan and Wing-In-Ground effect craft (http://www.se-technology.com/wig/index.php)

Clearly it was that, but at the time (about 2006) Iranian news agencies and state TV reported as a "super-modern flying boat capable of evading radar... Due to its advanced design, no radar at sea or in the air can detect it. It can lift out of the water."

I did have a photo of this new plane but I put it down somewhere and can't find it.

This is likely propaganda. I would guess the intention is less to worry the West and more to convince the Iranian people what a great nation they live in and what a fantastic strong government they are led by.

At first glance I thought this aircraft looked a bit like a DB10.
Now I'm sure it is a very capable thing, and is invisible to "enemy" radar, but then I have some contacts with "friendly" pilots, and hey presto, it's visible again.

Yes, yes, it's a poor translation I suspect:E, getting my coat now.
