British Caledonian fleet 1996

Did Caledonian have either DC10s or 1011s with the registrations ending in TK and TI in 1996 . Hope some one can help!!!

Have kept a log book over the years of my passenger flights, and on looking through it the other day found a holiday trip to BGI via TBO with G--TK and G--TI penciled in. The aircraft is also penciled in as a DC10, but could it have been a 1011? Must have been a bit jet lagged after an uncomfortable flight, or asked my wife to remember the registrations that I would fill in later!!!!!

Would have been Caledonian Airways not BCal. DC10s were G-BHDH ( ex BCAL ) and G-GOKT I believe.

British Caledonian were bought out in the late 80s by British Airways and disappeared. Caledonian Airways (a totally separate charter outfit) bought the livery and name.

Caledonian operated five (5) L-1011's in 1996 they were:

G-BBAJ s/n 1106
G-BBAI s/n 1102
G-BBAH s/n 1101
G-BBAF s/n 1093
G-BBAE s/n 1083

Caledonian's last L-1011 flight was Oct 31, 1999.

Not right. When BA bought BCAL in 1988 they amalgamated both airlines charter divisions - namely British Airtours and British Caledonian Charter - into a single outfit and adopted the name Caledonian and the basic BCAL livery.

BA later sold Caledonian, complete with identity, in December 1994.

I think there might possibly be some confusion between Caledonian Airways and CalAir. BA created Caledonian Airways partly to appease those who did not want the BCAL identity to be lost after the "merger" whilst CalAir was, I think, latterly owned by the Rank Leisure group. I could be wrong, though.....

From memory I think they operated the following '10s at that time. DCIO, MULL, BGAT and NIUK. Take your pick! Some of them have some of the letters in your log.

I think pretty much right.

Calair being considered too close in name to Caledonian Airways then became Novair - they acquired a couple of 737-400s to operate alongside the DC-10s , but these only lasted a year or two at most before before Rank withdrew from the holiday / airline business and Novair was wound up.

G-BEAL was the Caledonian TriStar, G-BEAK / G-BEAM were BA by that time and ended up at Mojave as such.

G-BEAK s/n 1132 was never operated by Caledonian. However, was operated by Air Tours for a few months.
G-BEAM s/n 1146 was never operated by Caledonian.

The orginial question did Caledonian have TriStars in 1996.

There was a book produced, But I have never seen it.

Looked on ebay for it but not found it (yet)

The CKT Tristars were 'Workhorses' but not easy to repair, As has already been said last year by a 'Former' mechanic.

If memory serves me right, BBAF/H was the last L1011 to leave on Oct 31 1999?

apropos of nowt, I worked in Milan a lot in the mid-late 80s, always got the 6:30 BCal back to Gatwick rather than the 5:00 BA to Heathrow. Much nicer, regrettable that they were swallowed up. Ah, the free drinks.... :ooh:
