Has anyone else had a problem with this new Hotmail format released a few days ago?
Seems attachments wont open and address book problems when forwarding emails to more than 1 person.
Or is it time for a format or possible move to yahoo?

since I only use hotmail for more anonymous mail I don't tend to get attachments so I haven't noticed any problems, but I don't like the new interface any more than I liked the old one.

Why move to Yahoo?? So many to choose from....Gmail, Inbox.com, Your ISP..etc etc.....(I quite like Inbox myself although it's not my primary email)..

The very latest Hotmail format is dire in the extreme. Like many cheap and nasty websites () it now has a stupid flashing advert banner on the right hand side.....

However, what I didn't know was that you can add your Hotmail address as an additional Outlook Express e-mail account.

Settings are:

Servers:
Incoming (POP3) pop3.live.com
Outgoing (SMTP) smtp.live.com

Incoming Mail Server Account Name and Password are the same as for your normal Hotmail.

'Log on using Secure Password Authentication' - do not tick the box!

Outgoing Mail Server 'My server requires authentication' - tick the box.

Advanced:

Server Port Numbers:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) 587 'This server requires a secure connection' - tick the box.
Incoming Mail (POP3) 995 'This server requires a secure connection' - tick the box.

MUCH easier connecting to a public WLAN with your own computer and Outlook Express than farting about with MicroShaft's awful Hotmail website! All identified spam is held on the server, so you only receive mail passed to your inbox.

Windows Hotmail support via outlook express is being phased out.

It was originally meant to be turned off last year but got postponed.

The prefered method is to use live mail as described here Microsoft Announces Changes for Accessing Hotmail with Outlook Express - Windows Live (http://emailsupport.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!5D6F5A79A79B6708!5359.entry?wa=wsignin1.0&sa=433039748)

And I agree the new interface stinks - very pretty for a web app but not really what anyone wants or needs.

The article you quote doesn't seem to say that support via outlook express is being phased out, it says thatthe protocol DAV is being switched off. From the way I read it, POP3 is still available. Am i right? ANyone doing that?

The new look hotmail is dreadfull! I keep on seeing all this crap about " my network", seems like they're trying to jump on the social networking bandwagon. Facebook is great, but I don't want all my online communication to be done in that way.

My Outlook Express incoming Hotmail uses POP3:

Incoming server (POP3): pop3.live.com

Works just fine!
