OK - get your bets on now and lets see tommorrow who are the winners.

I have put money on Septimus - Master O'Reilly - Honolulu.

Like many once a year gamblers I know nothing but become an instant expert on the first Tuesday in November.

Oh - and good luck to the citizens of the US. I trust they will forgive us taking our eye off their exercise in democracy while the rest of the world focuses on 3200 metres of grass in Melbourne.

Go - you good horse.

:D

I have Septimus in the mix, but I'll sleep on the rest.

Murrican elections happen on Wednesday local time fortunately, so one's priorities are not in conflict.

My vote is Obama for Pres, but Republican for policy. So I can't win.

(As an aside, since their elections are held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November, we sometimes get a one week gap)

Invested $40 on the TAB; $40 on sweep tickets; and $35 buying a 1/2 share in a horse in the Calcuta.

Winnings = $0.

Oh well maybe I should pay attention to my father-in-law - he backed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

:ugh:

Hope he had them in a trifecta.It paid just over $22,000 on the Victorian TAB. The quadrella was $589,000. Oh for the crystal ball :(

In fact if you had put $1 the win on every horse at a cost of $22 you would have got about $40 back, depending on which bookie or TAB had your money.

Needless to say I didn't do that. I had 5th, 13th, 18th and 21st in my boxed trifecta and $5EW on the one that came 13th.

I'll be back, full of hope, next year.

I have been watching the Melbourne cup ever since I could remember, but this was one of the most open fields I had seen with the arrival of the international contenders. I had Bauer to win, with place chances of Profound Beauty and a roughie in Master O'Rielly. This was a sentimental bet of course, however I was really pleased to see Bart Cummings win his 12th, it is wonderful for racing and ever greater to see an Australian horse take the cup with them rather than seeing it go abroad. ;)
