Who parks it?

Hi all,

Just a quick question, if I may. For the aircraft that are not left on stand overnight, who parks them in hangars? Is it the job of the pilots of the last flight of the day, or does someone else do it?

hi if they need to be moved of stand or go in a hangar there with be an enginer in the cockpit and a tug crew with a tug will tow the aircraft

They use the tug vehicle for the huge airliners.
For the small planes, Usually, the pilots push them back into the hangars using a tow-bar.

In some parts of the world, Ground Engineers used to taxy the aircraft (up to 747 size) to/from remote parking.
I do not know if that still happens with the recent high cost of fuel. :}

Yes, that looks like a good reason to use a tug, and pressurise the appropriate hydraulics. :rolleyes:

Ground engineers require "taxi" qualification (by type) to taxi an airplane under its own engine power. Even for a towed airplane, you need a qualified ground engineer to "ride the brakes" in the flight deck.

If no qualified ground engineer available, one pilot crewmember is required to move the airplane. All this is subject to company policies. And do not call us at hotel. My F/O, my F/E and myself are in the middle of a beer, therefore, we cannot taxi airplanes for the next 8 hours, and taxiing airplanes does not count as part of required rest period.
