Hi all,

Just a quick question, if I may. For the aircraft that are not left on stand overnight, who parks them in hangars? Is it the job of the pilots of the last flight of the day, or does someone else do it?

Thanks!

They use the tug vehicle for the huge airliners.
For the small planes, Usually, the pilots push them back into the hangars using a tow-bar.

In some parts of the world, Ground Engineers used to taxy the aircraft (up to 747 size) to/from remote parking.
I do not know if that still happens with the recent high cost of fuel. :}

Fuel costs for taxying might not be the highest costs that this might incur. I'd suggest that you take a look at the page on Jethro's website for what can go wrong.........:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :sad: :sad: :sad:

Yes, that looks like a good reason to use a tug, and pressurise the appropriate hydraulics. :rolleyes:

Ground engineers require "taxi" qualification (by type) to taxi an airplane under its own engine power. Even for a towed airplane, you need a qualified ground engineer to "ride the brakes" in the flight deck.

If no qualified ground engineer available, one pilot crewmember is required to move the airplane. All this is subject to company policies. And do not call us at hotel. My F/O, my F/E and myself are in the middle of a beer, therefore, we cannot taxi airplanes for the next 8 hours, and taxiing airplanes does not count as part of required rest period.

If you ever need one moved, this guy will take care of ya.

Joe Patroni (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001421/): You chickened out on me! I told you I wanted all the power you got!
Capt. Benson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0666097/): Full throttle and this plane would be standing on its nose.
Joe Patroni (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001421/): You might fly these things but I take them apart and put them back together again. If you had any guts we'd be on the runway by now.
Capt. Benson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0666097/): You felt it vibrating? Another 10 seconds and we'd have had structural damage.
Joe Patroni (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001421/): Who do ya think you're talking to, some kid that fixes bicycles? I know every inch of the 707! Take the wings off this and you could use it as a TANK! This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.
Capt. Benson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0666097/): You might tell your mechanic that I've got three million miles in the air.
Joe Patroni (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001421/): And two and a half feet into the ground
