View Full Version : Where Have All the CASA Drivers Gone ? ? ?

I posted this question a few days ago under the Title Medavia, and it produced big fat hairy zero. So thought I would try again with a different one.

10 days ago ppjn stated that ALL(?) of the CASA pilots have left Medavia because of poor terms and conditions ! As I am applying to this company, I am obviously interested to know if there is any truth in this ? From what I've gleaned so far about Medavia, it's a good company with happy pilots, so what the problem with the CASA guys, if indeed there is one ? Could anyone enlighten me, and others infact, as I've had a couple of PM's from people also asking the same question.

There are about 400 in existance, and it was made primarily for the military market, and from what I can find out, it seems to be operating mainly in that domain, so there cann't be that many people flying it in the civilian world, can there ? I'm thinking small supply of pilots=company would want to hang on to them, and certainly not p@## them off ?

Thanks in anticipation.

I know one F/O has just joined our company and will fly A320s. That in itself (besides being based back at home) is probably reason enough to leave the desert.

Thanks Jetset ! 223 views and AT LAST a response ! Er don't know if flying a 320 was the only reason do you ? I appreciate that it may have been an over-riding reason, but it's horses for courses and all that.

Thanks.

Hi everybody,

I also would like to have some information about Medavia and Terms & Conditions in Malta/Lybia...

Is there any Medavia or ex-Medavia pilot who could give us some information?

Thank you in advanced

I work for Medavia and still do, I was a CASA Pilot and now a Dash8 pilot. Work conditions are good so far, and I can't complain. The Casa Pilot in Medavia still working there and the only four left the company and the other upgraded with-in the company to B1900 or Dash 8.

One pilot went to AirMalta
One pilot went to fly Hawker in Europe
One pilot couldn't crack it and was not a great pilot, Didn't belive CRM and was not released, so he left and now works for NetJets, and I heard that he was fired from there too.
One Pilot left the company due to Health reasons. (Cancer)

The company contract they pay for your tickets from home to base, you get food allowance, a good place to stay and Bupa insurance. Pending on Contract you get 28/28 or 20/10, that is 28 days on and 28 days off.

I hope this answers your questions mate and if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Good Luck

Thanks for that post Flying Aggie.

I know I mailed you about it, but perhaps I should have replied publically for anyone elses benefit. (Been a bit busy of late, as now unemployed). However, I also received a PM from a reliable source, that basically supports your post, and confirmng that the CASA fleet is now fully crewed ! So looks like Medavia is a happy ship with all the CASA drivers they need.

What concerns me then is that, on the face of it, the post was more than somewhat scurrilous to say the least ! Made by someone with a grudge ? It did make me wonder about the integrity of the ppjn site, and how it works. On prune it's often hailed as a font of all knowledge, but does anyone know if it's moderated in any way, and contents checked for accuracy ? If I was Medavian Management I would be rather upset about people making unfounded accusations in public about the company, on what is a widely read website amongst the piloting community.

If anybody has any thoughts please share.

Thanks.

With regards to ppjn L8,

I had an interview lately and one of the pilots on the interview board and I had a conversation about it:

Him: "I see here in your cover letter that you attained some of your info. about us on ppjn.com

Me: "Yes, while I take anything I read with a pinch of salt I have found it to be a reliable source in the past".

Him: "They (ppjn) said we were closed down a month ago, that we had ceased ops, so why did you go ahead with your application to us"?

He seemed quite annoyed at this stage but he setteled down a little when I told him that there had been following updates on his airline and that they corrected the earlier post which he initially refered to.

ppjn has changed over the past 12months I feel. A year ago when I was bored out of my mind (i.e studying for my ATPLs!) I was looking at ppjn alot and there were frequent updates. However, now there is often several days between updates being posted so I do believe they now screen each new piece of info. submitted.

Like everyhting there are mistakes made and the website in question is no exception!

I feel myself that it's a good website and I agree with L8 it would be interesting to know how it's moderated.

By the way L8, apply for that B1900 job!!

Hi guys

PPJN gets it's info from pilots like us and when one pilot is upset with the his company try to put down that company. But anyway it is not PPJN mistake they put the info as they get it.

Good luck to everyone who wants to come to Medavia and I hope ya'll will enjoy it.

Hi FA, you're absolutely right ! Finally got my finger out and had a proper look at the ppjn site. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the Home page, which basically says that it relies on honest contributions, and does not take responsibility for the integrity of the information that is supplied ! So that's that then, it is not moderated as such.

Could have saved everyone some angst if I'd done that in the first place - sorry folks :-{ !

D8 looks like you've come to a decision, so enjoy, and thanks I will !

SC re PM, er is that a no then ?

Thanks to all who replied and good luck to everyone at Medavia.

L8,

No decision yet, still wondering and of course doing a lot of waiting!

You're leaning fast my friend, and it's VERY good experience, because you can spend an awful lot of time rushing to go nowhere in aviation; and so patience becomes a virtue :-).

I thought so from your first post, but then wondered after your second post, and obviously wondered wrong - doh ! It's a good game these life changing decisions; pity they didn't cover it in the ATPL really, instead of the hoop jumping crap that they do - now don't get me started on THAT !

Al'humdililah (excuse the spelling)

I believe I know that guy that left for NetJets... :) And I fully back your opinion.

Hope everything goes well with you, Norm!

For me I am still waiting to see what comes around the corner... Would love the experience, but not at any price.

Cheers to you, mate!

Hey,
just wondering : are they operating under JAR only or any OACI licences ?

Flying Aggie

We operate under JAR rules mostly unless you can get approval from Maltese Department of Civil Aviation.
