What Are The Rules And Regulations, The Do's AND Donts For Flying A Clipper Over Water ?

For us in Oz, if overwater with single engine float equipped a/c, pax must have lifejackets and wear them, if over 30min at cruise speed or 100nm (whichever is less) from land, must have life raft, if you then require lift raft, a/c must have pyrotechnic signals, survial equipment & ELT.

But can't help you with regs in Ireland old chum.

Rules And Regs depend where you are.

Do's and Don'ts ? One thing they emphasise on the RHC course is when you hit the water in an auto, have the nose about 5 degrees up to avoid flipping over.

Judging flare height over water is near impossible without recurrent training, especially if executed on a moonless night over rough seas.

Expect the waterline to come right up to the door sills, which means you may have to write off the aircraft due to salt corrosion anyway.
