Last day
27th Oct 2008, 12:12
Today is my last day in the RAF after 37 years. I go with some sadness at the state of the RAF today but I can honestly say that I have had the time of my life. Great friends, great experiences and I have travelled to places I can't even spell or find on a map.
I got caught shagging OC Admin Wings daughter, but she is now the present Mrs Last day, I got done for drink driving and was given a severe rep (not very proud of that one) but it didn't stop me from getting to the top of my pile.
All I say to the youngsters joining today is take everything the RAF has to offer you, education, adventurous training and get on as many courses as you can the list is endless if you are prepared to go out and get it.

Would I do it all over again? Damn right I would.
Will I spend my retired life on here getting angry at the Government and MOD? Damn right I won’t. Life is too short.

Good bye to you who remain and stay safe wherever you find yourself, but above all don't let the buggers grind you down even if you don't like the present pay scale, after all nobody has been given a pay cut.

Cheers.:ok:

ps. can I sell what I have left of my kit on ebay?;)

Dear lastday,
Get some some in son, Ive done 40 years and still going strong.

Seriously though, well done you. It's good to see somebody on here not winging about something or other.

If you liked it that much, try and join your local RAuxAF sqn. I am sure with your track record you would be more than welcome at most. (just reread your history again so now not entirely sure that shagging peoples daughters and getting pissed is quite within our jobspec). The RAuxAF is desperate to recruit people with experience, and we take ex servicemen up to 56, and you can work on till you are 60. You still have access to your respective mess, can teach the new generation, have fun and earn a bit of dosh on the way (without affecting your pension). All this for working some weekends and in whatever spare time Mrs Last day will allow you. So don't sell your uniform off quite yet.
Either way, good luck in civi street,
Yours, The adj

Last Day, thanks. Good to see someone else who figured that the good far outweighed the bad.

PS. See you at the RAFA Club/Remembrance etc.

Nice one Last Day! Enjoy yourself. An excellent post on leaving the Service - bitterness is not good for the soul after all.

At the risk of being somewhat trite, remember that tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life, and go for it with the same attitude that has clearly served you so well to date.

So, congratulations on what you have achieved thus far, and all the best for the future.

Jack

PS And don't forget to wear your Veteran's Badge!:)

All the best for the future and may it be a long one.

It's refreshing to see some positive sentiment from someone who is leaving the service.

Last Day: You and I are both very lucky people - we had jobs we loved and actually looked forward to going to work. There aren't all that many who can say that although I bet there'll now be an avalanche of posts telling us all what wonderful jobs they've got. I hope this will make up for all the bl**dy whingers. :E

Seriously, though, all the best. Retirement is brilliant; the hours are great but the money's cr*p, but what the hell... :}

I posted a similar message just over a year ago. Good luck to you my friend. By the way, the next day I was playing golf as a pukka senior (55) and had 2 texts and I didn't disturb any other players.to tell me that my neice had given birth and that my daughter in law had gone into labor.(unfortunately my grandson didn't arrive until early the next day). A pretty eventful 24 hours or so.

And before anyone says anything my phone was on discrete

Good Luck and WELL DONE!

The point about getting on as many courses as you can is valid as there are many opportunities within Armed Forces that Civvy life can only dream of.
Trouble is finding a Unit where one is able to get away on courses without landing your colleagues in it!

Enjoy

Gentlemen, thank you for your kind words. Last night the wife and I went to the Fat Duck, Heston Blumenthals' restaurant. 3 Michelin stars!!!!!!! Cost an absolute fortune but hey the RAF have just given me a big pot of money:ok: and I have no mortgage:ok::ok:. As for retiring, well I have actually got a job with the Rail Industry on similar money to what I was on and less hours!!!!!! I am not starting for a few weeks so I feel some golf coming on. Anyway thanks again chaps and stay safe.:)
