Did a VC10 fly over / to the north of Heathrow this evening around 18:00 with its flaps down, or was it just an MD80 type tail engined damned noisy jet going around? Seemed too far north, and too high and noisy for an MD80 missed approach - even the wife commented! :}

Yeah, what was that doing in at LHR. Was near the Spotters Deck when i saw something with a Pointy nose land. Nice and Loud. Asked a few what it was and i describe and got my answer as a VC10. What was it doing there, i heard it was bringing people back from America.

R..

LHR still has a spotters deck? Where is that?

Yeah,

BAA Heathrow have provided it i believe, It's outside the visitor center in the car park. TBH! It's better than nothing but not the good old days were i could watch Concorde on top of Queens, when i was little.

R......

Something to do with Government flights perhaps. I know Tony Bliar used to use VC10's out of Heathrow at times.

Ref the VC-10 that was in Heathrow it came in from Brize Norton and went off to Waddington with a compassionate case.

What a beautiful site when it got airbourne nice and loud and smokey, shame we don`t get a few more of these in

I still think it and the comet have the best shaped nose going, though the dreamliner appears to have copied it somewhat.......

Many happy years working on them, did my final ground run days before I left the mob during Staishes church parade on a Sunday morning pointing towards the church, in the days of when only idle power was allowed and authorised and only then in a dire operational emergency......... boy, did they all sound sweet cranked up to full power :p Ops even sent a nice car out to pick me up LOL, I had turned the radio right down as all they seemed to be doing was trying to outdo the beautiful whine of 4 Conways in song........... :} what were they going to do, keep me in? LOL
