Until I reached 65, I had annual travel insurance from American Express, including cover for flying light aircraft as pilot. I doubt if they would exclude you.

Try Tangible Insurance in Mansfield they have done mine for a few years. Not sure about Irish residents though.
I had problems personally with E.Little, apart from the 0870 numbers, the addditional fees I was suspicious of the actual endorsement for flying which appeared after some effort.

One man's meat is another man's poison. Emery Little have always provided prompt professional service and if they can't do it they will say but not without trying hard first.

As a humble insurance Broker in East Kent, we have a specialist travel policy which is single trip or annual, designed for pilots and passengers.
Roughly you could spend about......
USA 1 month £130.00 for pilot training in USA, aged under 65 in good health. Deduct 20% if you do not want baggage. Sorry - we can only deal with UK residents.
This is not a quote just a rough idea of costs, providing you meet all the requirements of the insurer.
Also if you fly from the UK we can include repatriation cover for you, your passengers and the plane if the pilot ends up in hospital, at no extra cost!
Designed policy myself as I fly reguarly to the continent, and was worried the wife and club plane would be left around the airport if I was hospitalised!

In case this helps.
American Express Travel insurance does it for UK residents only.
Traffords £115 1month or (yearly for UK ONLY) including baggage etc.
On Risk £125 for 1 month no baggage.
