View Full Version : What's Happened At Esso

I hear this morning that there has been a bit of blow up just down the road at Esso in Victoria. They have CASA involved, investigating a pilot for saying he is instument rated when he is infact not rated at all. The chief pilot has resigned, another contract captain shown the door for a Drink Driving offence which happened 18 years ago.

Anyone else heard any of this?

Sounds like a perfect rumour for pprune!!:)

I'd find it very difficult to believe that there would be anyone there who hadn't been checked out thoroughly in-so-far as qualifications were concerned, or being shown the door for an 18 year old spent driving conviction for that matter. But since the days of AA and MM standards there have been in decline (or so is rumored) so I guess anything is possible now. Let's wait an see what comes of the rumor.

AFAIK The Chief Pilot resigned some time ago on good terms with Esso, CASA and the Workgroup, independent of and before any other issues, to continue his career overseas.

To ensure fairness and accuracy that part of the story and any other rumours should be separated. ;)

All very quiet down there in Longford. I think the ranks are closing/closed.

Heard that there may be a little bit of fallout over this one...a few people in damage control and a few that have been damaged..

Also to add to PO dust devil the outgoing Chief was out of the loop prior to this.

Apparently the gas plant blew up there a few years back, maybe it's all linked?!

BladeBanger, you really have the 'goss' on everything inside the industry don't you? Care to elaborate or do you just like to throw a flimsy bit of old womens gossip on this forum.

"Igor13"

That was around 10 years ago that happened, which is unrelated to a few people on the move now.

Think you will find that Esso is just fine!

Their respected and just retired Chief Pilot has moved onto to a Tax Free task in Asia [Lucky bugger].

Has been replaced by their Chief Training Chap, also a respected chap.

Esso's "Corporate policy" of not tolerating past indiscretions has caught another well respected chap out. [Esso’s Senior Management must be puritans, or !!].

The rumor is that he is now happy with another progressive mob flying less hours on a better roster and better machines for the same $$.

And the last rumor is that someone was marched to the Security Gate and pushed rather firmly out the door the other day. Surprise surprise, one can only imagine who that maybe??

A history of lies, unsuccessfully taking operators to court and lying to the ATSB maybe something that he is yet to be confronted with.

Esso, apart from being a “Sheltered Workshop” for the Offshore folk in Bass Strait, they are doing just fine, thank you.

overpitched, I dare say one Peter Tickner, one of the greatest C & T'ers one could have the privilege of sharing a cockpit with.

Well thats ok then. For a second there I thought they had appointed someone with no people skills, who had zero support in the crew room and who took every comment or question as a personal attack.

Interesting to see Maxeemum congratulating Tick. Rumour on the street is that you are the pilot that they escorted to the gate and promptly locked it behind you.

Any comments?

Never worked at Esso Curious 2, Tick can confirm that. Tick and I knew each other from a previous life. If you "knew" me, you would know that to be the case. You are incorrect in your post mate. Nice little diversion off track though......

Apologies Maxeemum, the name I am hearing is very similar to the one you are using but it sounds like you are from an older generation. This aside is the rumour of someone being shown the door true or not? Why was this done and why all the secrecy?
