DTM airport currently closed, apparently due to Nouvelair A321 aircraft over-running the runway.

But I agree, why cant people speak plainly when referring to a/c types, airlines, and airports instead of using codes that not everyone is aware of ?

Dortmund - it's in Germany and it's got a fairly short runway.
FFS - can't you lot just chuck DTM into google - it takes less time to do that than it does to start complaining about not knowing where DTM is!!!!

Interesting how it's mainly spotters (sorry, enthusiasts) who use excessive abbreviations. Ok, everyone knows what a B737 and an A321 are. I know the ICAO codes for the airports I file flight plans to/from, and can probably remember the IATA codes of about 80% of those I've flown through as a pilot or passenger, but the rest? No chance...
It's not big, and it's not clever.

And remember, some of us in our 70s can't always remember our name, but we can remember phone numbers of companies that we dealt with 10 years ago and have not used since.
