Had a great offer with Windows XP STD so just had to buy. When I installed it there was a message stating that I could open it 49 times but then I had to have an activation number from MS. I rang MS and went thru the procedure and eventually had XP activated 9quite painless really). Until I asked,"Will I have to do this for my PCs at home?" Then came back, "you don't own this program and the terms of service are that you can only put it on 1 PC and 1 laptop." That was a big surprise to me (never read the service agreement, my fault, don't tell me).
"So with two Pcs at home what do I do?"
"You have to buy another program. This is to stop piracy."
"So restricting the access to XP will stop the piracy?"
"Yes. Is this converstion finished?"

If I can prove the ownership of my computers why should MS be allowed to state what can go on them?

WAREZ is now going to get a lot more attention from me.

It's called a single user licence agreement and has been around a long time. If you read them sometimes it says that you can install on more than one pc as long as it is only in use on only one at anytime.

One reason why I will not be upgrading my Win98 v1, nor will I upgrade from Office 97. I refuse to support M$ draconian machinations.

Now I've installed Linux on my laptop & will buy Linux compatible hardware in preference to non-Linux stuff.

Bye bye, Billy-boy and your flaky software.

The beauty of it is that Linux is FREE & can be altered however you choose, not the whim of some coke snorting, pony-tailed marketing d!ckhead.
