Hi all,

Just thought I'd jump the gun and open a thread so long for all your comments about the airshow!

Just heard that there are some of the exhibitions that were cancelled due to the weather...pity!

The weather was quite good on Sunday (the last day) and the display was superb. :ok:

It gave me a chance to see something the CAA won't allow in the UK -

And something they probably wouldn't allow -

Very impressive. Close formation, well executed throughout.

(The pics were sent to me. Mine weren't as good as these.)

Africa Aerospace and Defence 2008 (AAD) will be remembered for a number of reasons: the ceremonial hand-over of the first four Gripen dual-seaters to the SAAF, the unveiling of the new five member Silver Falcon team and colour scheme and the number of international shipyards displaying solutions for the SA Navy's offshore patrol requirement (Project Biro) and "strategic support ship" (Project Millennium).

However, for the general public, the mass formations, numerous heavy airliner displays, two sonic booms over metropolitan Cape Town and general aerobatic performances will be in their minds for a long time.

The full article and photos may be viewed at The Unofficial SAAF Website (http://www.saairforce.co.za/news-and-events/710/aad-2008-airshow-report)

The B737-200 was flown by Scully Levin and his daughter Sally Bates,
and the B737-300 by Pierre Gouws and Colin Gibson.

There should be a law that prevented moving this airshow from Gauteng to "Slaap Stad" - I used to get trade tickets and blaze away with my camera prior to the public invasion on the 2 public days. Darn !!!!!

Must admit, having it in Cape Town takes care of that red dust that plagues Waterkloof.

Ok granted, this year there was mud - but not in the chalets...:}
